Jarome Luai’s dad couldn’t help himself in the wake of the Wests Tigers’ humiliating loss against the Melbourne Storm on Sunday.
Ryan Papenhuyzen had a day out at AAMI Park as the Storm ran riot on the Tigers, recording a 64-0 win on Mother’s Day.

But if things weren’t already bad enough for Tigers fans, Luai’s father, Martin, decided to pour some salt into the wounds with an Instagram post that he has since deleted.
In a post to his Instagram story, Martin wrote: “Get out clause activated” along with a face palm and suss eyes emoji.
While Luai may have put pen to paper on a $6 million dollar deal with the club until the end of 2029, it was recently revealed he has a clause that would allow him to hit the market from November 1.
Despite his old man’s cheeky retort, Jarome has insisted in recent weeks his desire to stick with the club and has publicly come to the defence of coach Benji Marshall in the wake of the Lachlan Galvin saga.
“When it came out, I thought, ‘I haven’t even played a game in the colours yet and we’re talking (about leaving)?’” Luai told The Sydney Morning Herald.
“I think I’ve become a bit of a realist. I’m not looking that far ahead. Five years is a long time.
“Coming from a great club and my comfort zone, to step out of that and come here and test myself and test what I can bring to a new team.
“The biggest goal for me is to help these guys get in a position where they can compete for a title this year. That comes with a lot of work.”
But if the Tigers’ fortunes don’t turn around and the club continually finds themselves on the end of one-sided drubbings … Luai may well be circling November 1 on his calendar.
The loss snapped a two-game win streak the club was riding and drops them to 5-5 on the season and has them sitting in 10th place on the ladder.
While it was panic stations for the Tigers, the Storm were in celebration mode as Papenhuyzen burnt his name into the brains of NSW selectors with a four-try haul.
The star Storm fullback had a double inside the opening 10 minutes and hat-trick before the 20 minute mark as part of a stunning six-try opening half and a 64-0 win on Mother’s Day in Melbourne.
It equalled Storm’s biggest-ever winning margin and was the third time in his career Papenhuyzen scored four tries in a game, taking his 2025 total to 12.
His 36 points was also most ever by a Storm player in a game, eclipsing the record set by Matt Geyer in 1999.
“You never expect that in a game,” Papenhuyzen told Fox Sports as he headed to the sheds before scoring his fourth after the break.
“You come to games with no expectation, play footy and we’re playing really good. I feel like we’ve done some stuff at training this week to get us up.”
Papenhuyzen’s form is set to give NSW coach Laurie Daley a selection headache over the fullback position.
Panthers fullback Dylan Edwards in the incumbent NSW No. 1, but Penrith have struggled to start the season.
Roosters veteran James Tedesco is still in superb form for the Roosters and is also in the mix for a recall for State of Origin.
Papenhuyzen is yet to play in State of Origin but if he continues this form, a Blues debut is not out of the question.
