‘Hope for the best’: Maika Sivo sweats on scan results after suffering knee injury

Maika Sivo’s switch to the Super League has suffered a major setback with the former Eels star injuring his knee.

Dawgs celebrate Nines Premier League win

Former Eels winger Maika Sivo is sweating on scan results after he was helped off the field with a potentially serious knee injury during Leeds’ win over Wigan.

Sivo signed a three-year deal to join the English Super League club where he’s coached by his former Parramatta boss, Brad Arthur.

But the try-scoring machine is now nervously waiting to see what the scans reveal after the Fijian winger was forced from the field during his side’s shock 22-4 win over Wigan in Ash Handley’s testimonial match.

Sivo had been attempting to pressure Bevan French as he put in a kick late in the first half, with the winger staying down and clutching his left knee.

Arthur is hoping for positive news given Sivo scored 104 tries in just 115 NRL appearances for the Eels.

“I’m not a doctor, but he’ll have to have scans tomorrow and we’ve just got to hope for the best,” he said after the game.

“They’ve got to rule out all the possibilities around ACLs, MCLs, whatever.

“It’s his knee. He’ll have a scan tomorrow and we’ll just hope for the best.

“He’s positive … he thinks he’s got rubber ligaments and bones. We’re only speculating though, we won’t know for sure until he gets that scan. He’s walking now, which is good.”
