Grant Mayer out of race for Bulldogs chief executive role

LEADING candidate Grant Mayer has withdrawn from the race to be Canterbury's new chief executive.

LEADING candidate Grant Mayer has withdrawn from the race to be Canterbury's new chief executive.

Mayer, the former Manly CEO, announced yesterday he would be remaining in a senior marketing role at Wests Tigers.

The Daily Telegraph understands ACT Brumbies CEO Andrew Fagan has emerged as a genuine candidate for the position.

Canterbury are believed to have several candidates, all of them with a background outside of rugby league.

ARU official Greg Harris has also been mentioned.

Mayer posted on Twitter: "I'm not going to Dogs. Humbling to be mentioned but not true. More than happy where I am."

Mayer is likely to be a serious candidate to replace outgoing Wests Tigers chief executive Steve Humphreys, who announced last weekend he would step down in the next eight weeks.

Canterbury hope to name their replacement for Todd Greenberg later this week.
