From the footy field to the Monopoly board, Beau Fermor was the ultimate competitor as a kid.

Every play was an opportunity for the Dalby Devils junior to show ‘what he was capable of’ and the board was never packed away until he won.

“He was an absolute punish at Monopoly,” dad Craig Fermor said.

“If he lost a game we would have to play again and again until he won.

“As a junior (league player) he never made any reps but he always worked hard at everything he did.

“Every play was an opportunity to compete, a chance to show what he was capable of and help his team.

“He has always loved the game and worked hard for everything.

“That work ethic, resilience and willingness to compete are his greatest traits and the reason he is where he is today.”

Building on a strong end to the 2024 season, Fermor ranks among this season’s top second rowers.

Only Penrith and Parramatta have worse records than Gold Coast this season but the whispers around Fermor earning a Maroons jersey grow louder every game.

“We’re certainly praying to hear his name,” Craig said.

“He (Fermor) was born and bred here in Dalby and this family is 100 per cent Maroon through and through.

“It is a lifelong dream of Beau’s to play for Queensland.

“Just to hear the likes of league legends Wally Lewis, Mal Meninga and Cam Smith is amazing.

“We’re not getting ahead of ourselves though. Sunday against Canberra is just another opportunity for him to push his claims.

“We would be very proud of him if he was selected.

“We’ve always been proud of him – just getting a start in the NRL is amazing.”

Things could’ve been a lot different for the 26-year-old though.

Fermor, who was named in the Maroons’ Origin squad for games two and three in 2022, put pen to paper on new deal with the Titans at the end of the same year.

However tragedy struck during the 2023 pre-season when Fermor ruptured his ACL just before round 1.

Sidelined for the year, Fermor fought back in 2024 to once again establish himself as a star player.

“It was never easy, the mental and physical toll of rehabilitation is immense but he never gave up,” Craig said.

“He worked hard right through 2023 and while it took him some time for him to get his feet under himself, he got there eventually and you can see all that work paid off with him really hitting the ground running this year.

“It’s a real testament to his commitment he never gave up.”
