Reece Walsh and Jarome Luai were sent off and Josh Addo-Carr sin-binned in sensational scenes during the concluding stages of Queensland’s dominant 32-6 series clinching win against New South Wales.

After a late hit on Walsh led to players coming together for what looked initially to be a minor fracas, Luai confronted the Queensland fullback who then headbutted the Blues number six.

That led Addo-Carr to throw a punch at Walsh. All of those actions were only picked up by referee Ashley Klein after the replay was shown by the Bunker.

“Josh Addo-Carr, he’s trying to punch there. Wow! 20 seconds to go, that’s a brain snap,” Cameron Smith said on Channel 9.

“Both skippers, they’ve just got to take control of this match. There’s 22 seconds to separate the boys. Let’s finish it off.”

The drama wouldn’t go away there, with both Addo-Carr and Walsh pointing to their respective Blues and Maroons badges when leaving the field, with the fiery fullback hyping up the home crowd as well.

It was a strange end to what was undoubtedly a Queensland demolition on the night, with the Blues’ frustration reaching boiling point.

“There’s an insight into the frustration and the heartbreak the Blues are feeling. Reece Walsh looked at the scoreboard,” Smith said.

(Addo-Carr is) pointing at the badge and he gets an ovation from his teammates,” Matthew Thompson said on Channel 9.

“Not the nicest ending to Origin II, but Reece Walsh is being embraced by his teammates. Now, look out, he’s off too. Extraordinary.

“That will be dealt with in the days coming, but just wasn’t needed 20 seconds out from full-time.”
