Tigers prepared for the niggle of Michael Ennis and the Cronulla Sharks

THE Tigers say they’re ready for the niggling tactics of Michael Ennis and the Sharks and won’t be drawn in on Saturday night.

WESTS Tigers have talked a lot about composure this week — in attack, late in the match, and most of all, against Michael Ennis.

After opening the season with back-to-back wins, the Tigers will be attempting to arrest a two-game NRL slide against Cronulla on Saturday night.

And the niggling tactics employed by the Sharks No. 9 have become a focus for coach Jason Taylor.

But he is adamant the Tigers will be ready for whatever Ennis dishes up — after copping the same attention last week against Parramatta.

“Isaac De Gois did a similar job to us that we’re expecting from Michael Ennis. That was a good prelude for us,” Taylor said on Friday.

“De Gois did a great job last week of getting off the line and putting some pressure on our guys. And that’s been good because we’ve been able to do some work on that this week.” Taylor accused his side of wilting under scoreboard pressure applied in last week’s shutout loss to an Eels defence that has proven to be the stingiest through the opening month of the season. “That’s what I’m talking about when respecting the Sharks’ defence, because it’s really good,” he said.

Ennis was at his scheming best on Monday night.

“As the game wore on (against Parramatta), we needed to just be more comfortable with the fact that we didn’t have any points on the board because we were playing a good defensive team.

“As opposed to feeling like we should’ve been scoring tries, if the scoreboard doesn’t tick over for long periods, we need to learn to be comfortable with that. And we will.”
