NSWRL is set to investigate this alleged brawl

NSW Police are investigating a violent brawl which broke out after a country rugby league trial match in Tamworth at the weekend.

Up to 20 people were captured in a violent melee which began inside the Courthouse Hotel on Saturday night, before spilling out onto the road.

It is understood some of the people involved in the brawl were players and supporters from an earlier Woy Woy Roosters v North Tamworth Bears game. The Courthouse is a sponsor for the North Tamworth Bears.

Video of the incident shows a shirtless man on the road swinging blows and being chased by three men, before more people join in the fracas including several women.

At one stage, a woman can be heard yelling: “Get him...get him”.

Another woman - who is possibly filming the fight or close by to the person filming it - is then heard saying “Fk...fk...fk”. North Tamworth strenuously deny any of their players were involved in the drama.

In more disturbing footage taken on the same night and right before the brawl, a man is captured dancing with his pants down while standing on a table inside the pub.

The man, who witnesses said had played in the game earlier in the day, had his shorts and underpants around his ankles as he danced for the crowded room.

A security guard can be seen directing the man to pull his pants up and get off the table. It is not known if the man was allowed to stay in the venue after the incident.

A NSW Police spokesperson said police were aware of the brawl and the dancing video, and that both incidents were being investigated.

“About 2.30am on Saturday (10 March 2024), emergency services were called to Peel Street, Tamworth, following reports of a brawl,” a Police statement read.

“There were no injuries reported.

“Officers attached to Oxley Police District have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

The pub has been contacted for comment.

The NSWRL has been made aware of the footage. If found guilty, any players involved would be facing lengthy suspensions.

“The NSWRL has been made aware of an alleged incident in Tamworth on Saturday night,” a NSWRL spokesperson said.

“Given the alleged incident did not take place at a Rugby League game or a Rugby League function, it is a matter for the police.

“The NSWRL will provide any assistance required if the matter is investigated by the Police.”

North Tamworth also trialled against Narwan on Saturday. Woy Woy defeated Tamworth North 32-10.

Cronulla premiership winner Andrew Fifita was chosen to play for Woy Woy in the game.
