The Kincumber Colts are being accused of “destroying” the Central Coast rugby league competition after fielding five former NRL players with 239 games of top-flight experience in their side.
Just two rounds into the season, rivals are angry after the Colts smashed Terrigal 60-0 in Round 1 with the game called off under the mercy rule after 60 minutes.
Colts captain-coach David Fifita fired straight back at those attacking his club by declaring: “I know we will cop a lot of criticism but we’re following the rules.”
Kincumber is fielding a side which includes Fifita (19 NRL games), Matt Moylan (191 NRL games), Nathan Davis (9 games), Ben Marschke (13 games) and Ben Thomas (7 games).
All teams must submit their playing sides to the NSWRL, which employs a Player Points Index System (PPIS) — which is equivalent to the NRL salary cap. Kincumber’s playing roster has been approved.

“Kincumber are doing everything legally which allows them to do what they’re doing,” said Berkeley Vale coach Mark Jurd.
“But do I agree with them having so many (former NRL players) in one team? I don’t agree that you should be allowed to have so many high quality players in one team.
“I think it affects the competition. What are we trying to do here? Kill a team like Terrigal, who are in a massive rebuilding phase? We want them in the competition so it’s not good for a team like that.
“If they’re battered and bruised, what happens to them, do they pull out of the competition?”
Central Coast fans have taken to social media to vent their anger at Kincumber’s powerful side.
“It’s destroying the Central Coast competition,” one said.

Another posted: “How can Kincumber afford to pay all these players. I have seen others try to buy a comp and then struggle for years later.”
And this: “How do the Kincumber Colts stay compliant with PPIS?”
While another fan posted: “How can you have a team with five players with NRL experience in it and stay under the point system?” And another wrote: “What the f… happened to the points system with first grade?”
Fifita was unconcerned, saying: “I know we will cop a lot of criticism but we’re following the rules. I honestly don’t see the problem. Everyone knows the rules and the rule book is there for a reason.
“We’re actually still 10 points under the points so we could get another NSW Cup player.
“To those complaining, they can go online and look at our points – it’s all online. It doesn’t bother me. We’re there to put bums on seats and it’s good for us having the boys around. Matt Moylan is a family friend.

“We played Terrigal in round one. They debuted seven 19-year-olds. If you’re going to play against men in an A grade competition, you’re going to cop it. I even talked to them about that after the game.”
Rugby League Central Coast chairman Nathan Waugh insisted: “Ultimately, all the clubs have had the opportunity to submit their players and have their players assessed under the PPIS and so far all clubs have met those requirements.”
Current NRL players in the crowd for the Kincumber-Terrigal game included Victor Radley, Connor Watson and Tom Starling, who all have Central Coast connections.
Kincumber defeated Wyong 18-14 in Round 2 and play Woy Woy this Sunday.
