Dylan Napa confronted patrons who taunted and secretly filmed the Canterbury forward during a night out in Sydney’s eastern suburbs last week.

Just a week out from the Bulldogs’ NRL season opener against the Warriors in New Zealand, Napa got an indication of the treatment he is likely to face in the wake of the lewd ‘Big Papi’ videos.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Napa and a group of mates were out at dinner before stopping at the former Sydney Roosters prop’s local pub, Bondi’s Beach Road Hotel, at about 9.30pm.

Napa told Bulldogs officials he was drinking but wasn’t intoxicated.

Shortly after arriving a group of patrons began filming him on their mobile phones and taunting the fiery Queensland forward over the 2013 sex tapes that emerged in January.

Napa approached the men and demanded they stop filming and immediately delete the vision.

His friends, upset at the invasion of Napa’s privacy, then joined him and at that point the situation threatened to boil over, before the men filming Napa finally agreed to delete the video.

Napa then left the hotel to avoid the confrontation flaring up again.

“They were giving Dylan a hard time and he had the shits but he did nothing wrong,” a witness told The Daily Telegraph.

“He told the group to delete it because he hadn’t given them permission to film him or take photos.

“Videoing a bloke who is unaware he’s being filmed is terribly intrusive. It’s a shame but I guess what’s what will happen now to Dylan after the sex tapes came out.

“These type of incidents could become regular for him.”

Hotel management approached an agitated Napa, and while they did not remove him from the venue, they did encourage him to move on to prevent the group goading him further. The 26-year-old obliged and left of his own accord.

Canterbury chief executive Andrew Hill confirmed the incident and said Napa, who will start at prop against the Warriors in Auckland on Saturday, did nothing to incite the patrons.

“It is unfortunate Dylan went out with a few mates for dinner and a drink and got a hard time from a few patrons,” Hill told The Daily Telegraph.

“It’s a lesson for all involved with the game to the extent of the scrutiny everyone in rugby league is now under. It’s been a tough few months for Dylan.”

Canterbury officials have been supporting Napa on how to deal with the public backlash and possible sledging from rival fans for his involvement in the sex tapes.

They continue to monitor his wellbeing and believe the start of the season will benefit the big prop.

The NRL fined Napa $50,000 for his role in the sex tapes and he opened up last month on the toll it had taken on him.

“I had some days that weren’t so pleasant but I’ve had plenty of support from my family and my Bulldogs family,” Napa said.

“There were some tough days … some dark days.”
