Penrith star Jarome Luai has apologised for giving an embarrassing best man speech that he ‘will always regret’ at teammate’s Brian To’o wedding.
It’s not out of the ordinary for the best man’s speech to spill some of the groom’s less flattering secrets. But the line between a good or bad speech is a fine one.
Luai found himself on the wrong side of that line when he took the microphone to address the crowd during the reception party on Thursday night.
“Just wanna apologise for the words I spoke last night at my brother’s wedding and how ashamed I am for embarrassing both families and my own,” Luai said on Instagram.
“The excitement of the occasion definitely got the better of me and I took it too far. Not much I can do about it now but be a man about this mistake and learn from it.
“Apologies to everyone I’ve disrespected, this is something I will always regret. Love you guys @bizzzaa @salamoesha.”
The Panthers five-eighth slipped up retelling a story about the duo’s time together for Samoa over in England. And again, recalling an awkward moment between To’o and Cook Island dancers at the winger’s 21st birthday party.
Luai also used an offensive term to describe his friendship with To’o.
It’s the second time in two months Luai has apologised in similar fashion.
Luai also posted the offensive term in an Instagram post during grand final celebrations in the early hours of the morning following the decider in October.
The NSW Blues five-eighth escaped suspension over the incident.

Penrith’s grand final heroes were on hand on Thursday morning to help teammate Brian To’o marry partner Moesha Crichton-Ropati in a traditional Samoan ceremony.
Panthers stars Jarome Luai, Stephen Crichton and Sunia Turuva were just three of To’o’s nine groomsmen on the day, with Luai taking on best man honours.
To’o nerves turned into tears when he saw his bride for the first time walking down the aisle with her grandmother.
To’o wore a white tuxedo, while the new Mrs To’o was dressed in a long sleeve white gown that was adorned in a diamond shimmer.
Other Penrith teammates attended the ceremony including star halfback Nathan Cleary, Clive Churchill medallist Dylan Edwards, Matt Eisenhuth, as well as coach Ivan Cleary.
The couple stole the show at the 2021 NRL grand final when To’o popped the question to Miss Crichton-Ropati in the Suncorp Stadium stands after the Panthers beat South Sydney.
