Queensland rugby league legend Allan Langer admits he’s still “pinching himself” after being immortalised in bronzed from at Suncorp Stadium.

A statue of Langer was this morning unveiled at the northern end of the stadium, standing alongside the likes of Wally Lewis, Mal Meninga, Arthur Beetson and Darren Lockyer.

Langer played 34 games for Queensland, 288 for the Broncos and 24 Tests for Australia.

He said he was incredibly proud to have a statue alongside some of the game’s greats.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” Langer said.

“I’ve played rugby league since I was five-years-old to have this today at 52 is pretty special.

“Not just for me but for my family, my grandkids and all the people that have supported me in my career.”

Former teammate and longtime friend Lewis helped unveil the statue this morning.

He described it as the “greatest honour of your career”.

Former Origin Greats executive chairman Gene Miles said it was an inspiring and worthy achievement.

“Alfie conquered every challenge in the rugby league world, and it’s great his impressive career and contribution to Queensland is being recognised,” Miles said.

“He proved time and time again that size doesn’t matter, that a small player can not only succeed but go on to reach the very highest level in the game,” he said.
