Aaron Woods’ hairdo hall of shame, Bunnies’ forward pass was good and Cleary likes the Tigers

SPORT CONFIDENTIAL II: From Danny DeVito to Dora the Explorer, we rate Aaron Woods’ haircut horrorshows. PLUS, Bunnies’ forward pass was good and Cleary likes the Tigers.

Aaron Woods' many terrible haircuts.

AARON Woods has copped a hammering over his choice of hairstyle in Perth last weekend, being likened to everyone from Danny DeVito to Dora The Explorer.

The Canterbury prop has now apparently taken the razor to his melon and will go with a much shorter look against the Roosters on Friday night.

Woodsy has dreaded all the focus on his locks and refused to let us take a snap of his hair at the Bulldogs’ season launch.

For an educated opinion we tracked down one of Australia’s best stylists, Joh Bailey, who nearly tumbled out of one of his swanky Sydney salons when we showed him a photo of Woods from last Saturday.

“It looks like a mulleted bob,’’ Bailey said.

“He’s got no hair on top, clearly, and what he has got, it’s been bobbed like a Mosman housewife.

“He has just chopped it right off.

“For his hair type and shape, it couldn’t get any worse.

“I’d maybe give it a one out of 10.’’

We showed Bailey several other photos of Woods over the years, and he could not go past the shaved noggin when he first came on to the scene at the Wests Tigers, or the teenage snap (below) we dug up from 2007.

“His best look is when he keeps it short,’’ Bailey said.

“It suits his hair type, it suits his shape and basically suits his job, too. Why would you want a ladies’ bob on a football field?’’

The famous long hair Woodsy had for several years was “at least gladiatorial’’ and got a “five out of 10’’.

REF IN A RABBIT HOLE

THE controversial forward pass call that contributed to South Sydney’s downfall against the New Zealand Warriors last week has been ruled incorrect by NRL referees boss Bernie Sutton.

Referee Grant Atkins ruled Cody Walker’s pass forward in the lead-up to Robert Jennings scoring.

The call proved to be costly because the Warriors marched up field to score and take a 20-10 lead into halftime.

“I’ve told (Souths coach) Anthony Seibold that the pass should not have been ruled forward,” Sutton said. “The referee was not the best-placed official to make the call and I’ve reiterated that to the ref.”

Despite the error, we think the referees had a fair weekend under the new guidance of Sutton.

CLUBS are preparing to fire off a harshly worded letter to the Rugby League International Federation for sanctioning the mid-year Test between England and New Zealand in Denver. The match has earnt the ire of NRL clubs, whose bosses have united to send the letter to new RLIF boss Nigel Wood.

MANLY fans who are hoping for a quick resolution to the NRL’s salary cap probe will have to wait a little longer.

NRL boss Todd Greenberg wants more “clarity” on the additional information Manly have provided to the governing body.

“I want to make it sooner rather than later because I don’t want a shadow hanging over Manly or the game itself,” Greenberg said.

“But these are important decisions and I understand the gravity of these decisions, which is why I will take my time and consider all the information carefully.”

NSW quick Trent Copeland ripped through Queensland with a five-for this week, but it didn’t stop him dialling in from Wollongong on Thursday night to do a live SuperCoach webchat with The Daily Telegraph’s Tom Sangster.

Copeland would have loved the fact the Blues were batting on day two on Thursday so he could study up on his SuperCoach.

DINING OUT ON VICTORY

GWS Giants defender Heath Shaw shouted the entire women’s team after they beat up on his old club Collingwood a few weeks ago, splurging on a spread at Macelleria, a cool Newtown eatery part-owned by teammate Stephen Coniglio.

NATHAN ‘LIKES’ WHAT HE SEES

WESTS Tigers fans had reason to continue celebrating last Saturday’s shock win over the Chooks when an Instagram post from the club was “liked” by none other than Nathan Cleary.

This Wests Tigers Instagram post was liked by Penrith star Nathan Cleary.

The Penrith playmaker has been heavily linked to the Tigers because of his father and coach Ivan, whom he has said publicly he hopes to play under one day.

Nothing will happen until at least 2019 once Cleary’s deal at the foot of the mountains is up.

To be fair to the younger Cleary, it’s not the first time he has “liked” a Tigers social post, and he is naturally happy for the club because of his old man.

SHEER QUALITY GROUP

SOME of Australia’s most powerful business women and best athletes came together at ANZ Stadium for the Ed Sheeran concert on Thursday night. Venues NSW chairman Christine McLoughlin hosted the meeting, which included rugby boss Raelene Castle as part of Minerva Network — established to help mentor some of Australia’s finest female athletes. Australian rugby league player Ruan Sims, Matildas Ellie Carpenter and Kyah Simon and rugby sevens stars Charlotte Caslick and Alicia Quirk rocked along to Ed.

Tattooed Mittagong prop Nick Perrine has been turning heads at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre this week, where big sister Mel has already bagged two Paralympic bronze medals.

Apart from getting around in a singlet on Wednesday, when temperatures got into double figures, the hulking landscaper has been videoing everything possible on his iPhone to send back home — where the controversial Channel 7 blackout continues.

Quizzed on his decision to even pack singlets for a Winter Games, Perrine laughed: “Thought I’d sleep in it. But today, it’s hot enough. So why not?”
