V8 Supercars: James Courtney takes Chaz Mostert feud to next level in wake of Melbourne crash

The lawnmower gags may be flying around but it can’t hide the animosity between Chaz Mostert and James Courtney in the wake of their high-profile prang in Melbourne last weekend.

Chaz Mostert definitely claimed “I’m not a lawnmower” after he tore up the grass at the Australia GP – but James Courtney disagrees.

“I have photographic proof that he is indeed a lawnmower,” Courtney said after writing Mostert’s name on his lawn mower.

“It’s a bit less expensive than the one he used in Melbourne, but it does the job.”

James Courtney has named his lawnmowert after Chaz Mostert.

In a tongue in cheek crack at Mostert after the Holden driver went skirting across the grass after hitting him, Courtney this week painted Mostert’s name on his lawnmower.

And after being attacked by Mostert in the press for causing the crash, Courtney also slammed the Bathurst champion as “immature and insecure”.

“He wouldn’t talk about the incident and instead turned it on me personally,” Courtney said.

“That just shows his immaturity. His comments just show that he is immature and insecure.”

Mostert served first after he was escorted onto the grass while trying to overtake Courtney.

“I’m not a lawnmower there,” Mostert said.

“I think if Courtney goes and looks back at it, I’m not here to do the lawns around the Grand Prix.

“You’ve got to give respect out there to get it back.

“When you constantly play ‘the old 1984’ or whatever age he is game out there, you’ve got to give some room, even if the guy goes to the outside, we were side-by-side.

“You can’t just run him onto the grass, that’s what results in the last corner.”

Courtney said Mostert only had himself to blame.

“The stewards made the decision as to who was in the wrong when they gave him the post race penalty,” Courtney said.

Chaz Mostert picked up the win at Albert Park last Saturday.

“I race hard, but fair. I am not going to let someone pass without a fight. He tried to do the old bump and run thing, but he hit me that hard that he half lost it himself and Lee Holdsworth managed to get past him, too. I think he just ballsed up and it is him with the egg on his face. He carried on about the lawnmower trying to defend himself.”

Courtney has vowed to take the fight to Mostert after finding form in a Ford.

“I plan on being at the front this year so he might see a bit more of me,” Courtney said.

“And I will not be walked over, whether it be my teammate or anyone else. I am here to compete, and I love the fight. I am never going to roll over.”

Courtney was on track to land a podium until the last lap incident.

“The penalty he got doesn’t give us the podium,” Courtney said.

“It doesn’t give us back the podium for our sponsors and our team, it’s disappointing.”
