The 2024 Supercars calendar has been released. See what’s new, what’s changed and what’s missing plus the full schedule from February to November here.

Reynolds grabs first win in five years

The full Supercars calendar for 2024 has been confirmed with a few key changes to this year’s championship.

The 2024 calendar will again feature 12 rounds with a return to racing overseas and a new season opener.

We break down what is new, what has changed and what the future of key events is.

WHAT IS NEW

Supercars will return to New Zealand in 2024 with the April 19-21 round in Taupo.

After a NZ event was missing from the Supercars schedule this year, the series locked in Taupo International Motorsport Park for a return to racing across the ditch next season.

Supercars struck a deal to race at the North Island circuit from 2024 to at least 2026.

A return to NZ was a top priority for Supercars after a hole in its calendar was left by the closure of Pukekohe Park Raceway late last year.

A new Super400 format for Taupo debut event has been announced featuring two 200km races on each day of racing.

The Super400 format will also feature at the Sydney round, which is the only night race on the calendar next year.

New time-allotted race formats have also been confirmed for the 2024 championship for sprint events in Perth, Darwin and Tasmania.

The SuperSprint events will feature two races over the weekend, both 60 minutes long on either day as opposed to a designated number of laps.

WHAT HAS CHANGED

There will be a different season opener in 2024 with the Bathurst 500 at Mount Panorama to kick off the championship after negotiations over the Newcastle event were unresolved.

The Bathurst 500 will form part of a 10-day “Bathurst SuperFest” also taking in the Bathurst 12 Hour event.

The 12 Hour GT endurance event will be held from February 16-18 and the Bathurst 500 the following weekend on February 23-25.

Bathurst opened the Supercars season in 2021 after the Newcastle event was called off due to Covid and was called the Mount Panorama 500.

A second event at Mount Panorama will have no bearing on the iconic Bathurst 1000, which will be held in its traditional place on the calendar in October.

WHAT IS MISSING

The Newcastle 500, which opened this year’s championship, and Tailem Bend are the two events from 2023 not included on the 2024 calendar.

Supercars has said it remains in talks with local and state governments over the future of the Newcastle event beyond next year.

While The Bend will not host a Supercars round in 2024, the series has confirmed the South Australian venue will return to the calendar in 2025 when it will host an endurance round for the first time.

“Following discussions with management at The Bend, both parties have agreed that the best

outcome is to focus on 2025, where the South Australian venue will host an endurance event for the

first time,” Supercars chief executive Shane Howard said.

“The circuit has produced incredible moments on track since 2018 and is well-suited for Supercars

endurance racing. We’re all excited to see what happens on track when endurance racing debuts at

The Bend in 2025.”

MILESTONES

Supercars will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the famous Sandown 500 next year, but the long-term future of the event remains clouded.

The spectre of redevelopment continues to hang over the historic Melbourne circuit, which is a dual-purpose venue owned by the Melbourne Racing Club.

The Bend’s addition as an endurance event in 2025 will fill the void if racing at Sandown does not continue beyond next year, or if it does, there is the potential for an enduro cup.

Supercars said celebrations for next year’s milestone would pay respect to the 1964 running of an international six-hour race, which evolved into the Sandown 500.

It will also be the 50th anniversary of the first Sandown endurance event for the Australian Touring Car Championship/Supercars.

The Adelaide 500 will also celebrate its 25th anniversary next year.
