Aussie MotoGP star Jack Miller slams rumours he’s about to get sacked by KTM Factory team

Aussie Jack Miller has slammed rumours he is on the brink of being sacked by his MotoGP team or could be paid off to step aside and become a test rider.

Aussie MotoGP star Jack Miller had declared his spot on the KTM factory team in 2024 is safe amid rumours he could be bumped out as either a test rider or occasional wildcard entrant.

Miller brushed off the latest chatter and told this masthead he was confident of his contract.

“I know what my thing is. I know where I stand with my bosses and that’s all there is.’’

Miller said he focused on preparing for this weekend’s San Marino Grand Prix at the Misano circuit in Italy.

The KTM line-up for next year became muddled when it was confirmed the manufacturer had five riders but four bikes.

One rumour was that Miller would have his salary doubled to convert to a test rider.

But Miller said he didn’t know where the rumours come from and said it was just clickbait.

“It is what it is. It’s always been the same but at this point in time, I’ve learned how to not even look at it, not even give a sh--.

“I know where I stand. I know where my job’s at.’’

The Miller contract debate comes as fellow Aussie Remy Gardner has confirmed he has renewed his World Superbike deal with the GYTR-GRT Yamaha team for 2024.

Miller is among the five-rider line-up next year under the KTM umbrella – him and Brad Binder for the factory team, Pol Espargaro and Augusto Fernandez for the Tech 3 GasGas team, with rising Moto2 star Pedro Acosta also signed up.

Miller also dismissed an idea from Dorna boss Carmelo Ezpeleta who suggested MotoGP factories could have an extra member to ride in several races as a wildcard and cover for anyone injured. Miller said the proposal was nonsense.

The 28-year-old Queenslander is ninth in the world standings hoping to improve in recent average form in the final eight rounds including his home GP at Phillip Island on October 20-22, his favourite weekend of the year.

“I’m looking forward to it, the bike we have is unreal and has high-speed change of direction which is what you need at the island.

“The bike’s really good in the wind which is another thing you really need around the island so it looks as though the bike should really work well down there.’’

Miller’s best Australian GP result in MotoGP class was third on the Pramac Ducati in 2019. He also won the Moto3 race in 2014.
