Supercars championship winner James Courtney will headline a list of celebrity drivers set to tackle some of the state’s most challenging and technically demanding roads when the Adelaide Rally returns in December.

Courtney and his co-driver Jack Perkins, who placed third at this year’s Bathurst 1000, will be piloting a brand-new Lamborghini Huracan Evo, worth $460,000.

The pair will join fellow Supercars racer and Adelaide-born Todd Hazelwood, as well as Tim Slade over the four-day event set to start on December 4.

Alan Jones, a Formula One World Championship winner and Australian racing legend will be also in town rubbing shoulders with competitors and fans.

The Rally, which is split into four categories ranging from light spirited driving to timed, competitive racing, aims to cater to enthusiasts of all driving abilities.

For the first time, this year’s Rally will finish on December 7 with The East End Finale, a full-speed street blitz down Rundle Road, famous for hosting the Formula One Grand Prix until 1995.

The Finale is a free event and will include a display of competing cars, as well as high-end exotics such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche and McLaren at Rymill Park.

Adelaide Rally Event Director Tim Possingham is anticipating the arrival of more than 250 cars to the CBD, hoping to bring the joy of motorsport to the masses, including families and die-hard motoring enthusiasts alike.

“We are bringing racing back to the city,’’ Possingham said.

“People will be able to see a genuine Group B World Rally Championship car or a brand-new Lamborghini Huracan Evo on course.

“The East End is about a dynamic display on the road,” he said.

Possingham is also looking forward to the opportunity to host a community-based, family friendly event.

“We can introduce kids and families to motorsport, and they can learn from it and engage with it,” he said.

“There are kids’ activities such as radio control cars, slot cars, simulators … in Rymill Park as well.”

There will be plenty of off-track entertainment with expos, food trucks and stands, as well as licensed venues.

The Adelaide-built $1.8 million Brabham BT62 hypercar will feature at the display, alongside a genuine 1993 Subaru Prodrive WRX World Rally Championship car, among the many highlights.
