There are fears that wild weather could ruin this year’s Bathurst 1000 with Mount Panorama expected to be lashed by rain on Sunday.

News Corp Australia can reveal the start-time is likely to be moved forward amid concern that weather forced stoppages could red-flag the race.

Supercars officials will meet on Friday morning to confirm a plan for the race to start 30 minutes early at 11am in a bid to ensure a winner is crowned.

Evoking memories of 2014 when flash flooding caused the track to break up, the Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting Mount Panorama to be swamped with up to 10mm of rain.

In a dire prediction that has put the race in doubt, thunderstorms are also expected to hit Bathurst in both the morning and the afternoon.

A 1000km race that was completed in a record time off just over six hours, officials are concerned that rain forced stoppages could force the race into darkness.

The race would be abandoned in failing light because of safety concerns.

A minimum of 81 laps needs to be completed for a champion to be crowned.
