TYLER Wright has hit the competition arena for the first time in 2016 with a new coach and a new plan to win a breakthrough world crown.
Wright kicked off the year in stunning style at the Australian Open at Manly with the 21-year-old one of the standouts four round competition.
Wright has acknowledged publicly for the first time a world title is her goal for the year with coach Glenn Hall now guiding the star surfer.
“It’s just good to have someone looking form a different view sometimes,’’ she said. “Having Glenn on board has helped me a lot.
“I think he’s helped me keep my competitive life balanced and he’s helped me improve in so many aspects of my career.’’
Wright easily advanced into the next round of the Australian Open on Thursday, claiming the event was to show her what needs to be improved before the opening round of the World Surf league later this month.
“It’s good to switch on into surfing competition mode and not cruising mode,’’ she said.
“For me this is about seeing what I need to work on ahead of Snapper.”
Wright, six-time world champion Stephanie Gilmore and Sally Fitzgibbons are considered Australia’s best chances of reclaiming the world title off American Carissa Moore in 2016.
