MULTIPLE Olympic champion Nathan Outteridge and his rock-star crew have adopted a “win or swim” mantra as they search for top speed on sailing’s newest foiling machine.
The London Olympian said he and America’s Cup and 49er skiff cremate Iain Jensen and America’s Cup-winning skipper Glenn Ashby are happy to make a splash as they find their groove on sailing’s newest foiling machine, admitting they have already suffered a spectacular crash in training.
“We had a swim on the very first day we went out,” said the London Olympic champion and skipper of the Euroflex SuperFoiler, one of six on the newly formed Grand Prix tour lifting off in Adelaide in February.
“When you put a team like us together you have to know we don’t mind pushing boats hard and fast.
“If anyone was going to find the limits quickly, we were those guys.”
Outteridge and his team have already cracked the 65km/h mark on the boat which glides above the water in foils.
They join a crew headed by London Olympic silver medallist Olivia Price on the Kleenmaid foiler as the first of six crew unveiled to race on the new series in the new year.
