Australian 13-year-old skateboarder Arisa Trew becomes first woman to land 720 in competition

An Aussie 13-year-old has made skateboarding history as the first woman to land a 720 in competition, sending a Utah crowd into a frenzy.

Gold Coast teenager Arisa Trew has made skateboarding history as the first woman to land a 720 in competition.

Competing at the Tony Hawk Vert Alert in Salt Lake City, the 13-year-old performed the trick as part of her single trick round, sending the Utah crowd into a frenzy.

The trick itself, involving two full aerial rotations, was made famous by Tony Hawk, who first performed it in 1985.

Trew was ecstatic with the success.

“I can‘t believe I landed my first 720!” Trew wrote on Instagram.

“And to be the first girl in the world to land a 7 in competition.”

Trew’s coach, Trevor Ward, said Hawk had been involved in helping Trew, ranked 14th in the world, how to do the trick.

“What an amazing experience and journey it’s been with Arisa Trew to land the 720 in competition,” Ward wrote on Instagram afterwards, saying that he had also been working with German world number 11, Lilly Stoephasius on the move.

“We started the process not too long ago and in a few hours she was putting it to wheels.

“Tony (Hawk) was giving both girls tips on how to do the trick.

“With the hype of the crowd both girls battled for the trick and in the end Arisa landed the trick outside of time but became the first girl in history to land the 720.

“We knew it was coming soon – we just didn’t expect it to be on the world stage rather than on our vert ramp back home in Australia.”

Hawk said Trew’s feat “brought the house down”. ‘

Trew hopes to make the Australian contingent for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
