Marquise Goodwin scored a heartbreaking touchdown

SAN Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin broke down in tears after scoring a touchdown when he could no longer hide his private grief.

SAN Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin caught a deep ball from quarterback C.J Beathard and raced towards the end zone in the second quarter.

Over the top celebrations are back in vogue this season since the NFL relaxed the rules surrounding them, Goodwin however didn’t celebrate.

As he approached the goal line, he blew a kiss skyward and upon crossing into the end zone, fell to a single knee and did a sign of the cross before falling down to both knees and slumping into the turf.

It didn’t take long before his teammates arrived but again, instead of celebrating the touchdown, they simply knelt down next to their locker room buddy and threw their arms around him.

Now at the time, nobody knew what the meaning was behind the moment but after the game, Goodwin broke the devastating news to the world.

Posting the heartbreaking image onto his personal Instagram account, Goodwin explained how he and his wife Morgan had unfortunately lost their baby boy on Sunday morning.

Goodwin was somehow able to find the strength to take the field only hours after losing his son, a feat that left many speechless.

Included on that list was 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan who was informed of the pregnancy complications a day before the game.

“He was struggling with it for obvious reasons and he decided to play, which we were very grateful for,” Shanahan said in an interview with the associated press.

“He did a hell of a job for his wife yesterday, being there for her and helped out his family from that aspect. And also helped out his family here too. I think he helped out every side and was pretty impressive.”

Losing a loved one is never an easy task to overcome, being able to go out and compete at the highest level is an incredible achievement and one that won’t soon be forgotten.
