CHS rugby trials dominated by Sydney North with one position attracting top talent
One team dominated the CHS trials at Newcastle last week and one position stood out as being particularly strong according to the experts.

Sydney North CHS are hoping to see their top form reflected in s show of strength in the CHS team to be named this week after they navigated the under 18 state carnival selection event at Newcastle undefeated on Thursday.
Sydney North defeated South Coast 38-16 with a try right on time a highlight of the match at Harker Oval according to coach Chris Broome.
Standouts in the match included Richard Whalebone, Max Hodgeson and captain Isaiah Kokopeaua.
“It was a great game with that try right at the end off an intercept a real highlight,’’ he said.
“We ended up being undefeated. After day one we had over 100 points and only conceded one try but it was a lot tougher on day two with closer games against Sydney Easts and Sydney West.’’
Sydney North incorporated youngsters from as far away as Randwick Hill, the Sydney’s northern beaches and up to Wadalba Community College on the Central Coast.
“The more we get in the CHS team the better but across every team there were a great bunch of players,’’ Broome said.
“Looking over it, from previous years, there was a big, big, big improvement in one position. The front rowers were very dominant.
“Most regions has some great front rowers
“There were also some good inside backs and some good playmakers.’’
Sidney Harvey from North Western region was named Player of the Tournament.
Harvey hails from Narrabri High.
More young guns will be put through their paces this weekend when around 90 teen footballers from across Sydney converge on a local oval on Sunday as the hunt for our next generation of rugby stars intensifies.
The trials are being used to select a squad of 35 to represent Sydney in a series of matches against teams including CAS, CHS and GPS in Sydney on June 23.
