They say a change is as good as a holiday.
For Aussie Stinger Elle Armit, it’s been as good as a homecoming.
The Townsville-born forward returned to her home state this season, linking up with defending women’s champions Queensland Thunder in the off-season.
It has been a stirring return for the 31-year-old Olympian, who has played a key role in the Thunder’s undefeated start to the Australian Water Polo League.

The Queensland side will be back in action in their home pool for three days from Friday, with 18 games of the KAP7 Cup live streamed exclusively by KommunityTV from Fortitude Valley Pool.
Armit, who spent time with Sydney side Drummoyne Devils and overseas in the European leagues, said a chance to be closer to family had inspired her move ‘home’.
“I’ve been playing overseas for a couple of seasons, and after Covid it just made me realise I kind of want to be closer to family,” Armit said.
“We have a lot of new players into the club, including myself this season, so it’s nice to get a feel for each other again and get those connections you need to be a really good team.”
The Thunder are looking for their third consecutive AWL title, after winning in 2022 and 2019.
Armit said returning to a team that’s had so much success has been a little daunting, but she just ‘loves rising to a challenge‘.
“I know the girls are really keen to make that three-peat, so we’re all doing what we can day in, day out to make that a reality,” she said.
“Anyone can turn up on the day and be really good, and vise-versa. We can have a terrible game, so you just have to show up each game and take it as it is.”
Armit will face her former club for the first time on Friday morning, before the Thunder back up against ladder leaders Sydney University Lionesses on Saturday.
The Thunder will close out the weekend with a tough clash against the UNSW Killer Whales on Sunday.
