An Aussie Sharks star, his international teammate and a Spanish Olympian loom as the players to watch at the four-day Australian Water Polo League finals series, which starts in Sydney on Thursday.
National vice-captain Nathan Power has led defending champions UNSW Wests Magpies by example and they will start as title favourites, while Anni Espar Llaquet will be key as Sydney Uni Lionesses look to win their first title since 2017.
Every match of the finals series will be live streamed by KommunityTV, kicking off with the Sydney Uni Lionesses v Queensland Thunder women's match at 8am on Thursday morning. See the schedule below.
UNSW star Power has racked up an astonishing 30 goals this season – the most by any male player in the competition by a clear margin.
Nearest to him is Japanese teammate Seiya Adachi with 21.
Young gun Billy Miller, who originally played for Queensland but now suits up for the Sydney Uni Lions, and his teammate, Goran Tomasevic, are the next most prolific with 18 each.

Meanwhile, Spanish Olympian Espar Llaquet has been the star of the show in the women’s competition, netting 31 goals.
Fremantle Marlins gun Glencora McGhie is next best with 25 followed by Sydney Uni’s Maud Megens with 24 and Marlin Zoe Arancini scoring 19.
UNSW Wests Magpies and Queensland Thunder are the defending champions and were also the winners when a full season was last played prior to then in 2019. The AWL wasn’t held in 2021 due to Covid and the 2020 season was incomplete without champions crowned.
