Camille Rogerson has taken home the gold medal, and a Sydney Catholic Schools record, after winning the open girls blue ribbon 100m freestyle event.

Rogerson, from St Patrick’s Catholic College Sutherland, was locked in a ding dong battle with Tameka Johnson across the final 50 metres after both athletes touched the wall with a split second between them.

But as they pulled well clear of the rest of the 100m freestyle field, it was Rogerson who dug deep to lunge at the wall and record a time of 59.48 seconds, more than half a second ahead of the Sydney Catholic Schools record.

Plenty of records fell in the afternoon session at the Sydney Aquatic Centre at Homebush but it was back-to-back performances in the breaststroke that were breathtaking.

Warwara Harol, swimming for Domremy Catholic College in Five Dock, blasted home in the 50m open female breaststroke event in 36.75 seconds.

It was a sizzling performance which broke the previous Sydney Catholic Schools record by more than two seconds.

It was backed up in the very next race when Bailey Screen pulled well clear of the pack in the 50m open boys breaststroke final to touch the wall in 30.60 seconds, a full 1.40 seconds ahead of the record.

Both Screen and Harol would secure a second Sydney Championships record late in the day in the 100m breaststroke finals. Harol won a two horse race, shaving a second off the record time, while Screen outlasted his rivals to touch the wall two seconds beyond the record.
