Cripps Waratah has made a massive mid-season TNL statement with a gutsy 43-36 win over three-time reigning premiers Hawks on Saturday.

In the second meeting of the two sides’ this season, it was the home outfit that shocked the visitors to make a statement and show why they should be considered serious premiership contenders in 2025.

The two couldn’t be split after the opening quarter, before the Hawks broke away to take a 18-15 lead into the half.

It was after the break that Cripps then gathered the matchwinning momentum.

Despite numerous lead changes, the hosts controlled larger stages to score 15 goals in the third and take a two-goal lead into the final term.

That proved to be enough with the victors work on the defensive end limiting the Hawks to just eight final quarter goals while scoring 13 themselves.

Co-captain Alex Vinen was terrific in defence with shooter Matilda Franklin also impressive with 20 goals.

In under 19s action, the Hawks won 54-40 in an impressive display.

If Cripps are looking to make a statement of their intentions to play Tasmanian Netball League finals this year, there may not be a greater opportunity than this weekend.

After picking up a crucial win against Devon in round 7 to move one game clear in fourth spot on the ladder, they’ll now turn their attention to a huge clash with premiership contender Northern Hawks on Saturday.

The Cripps versus Hawks clash will be live and exclusive on KommunityTV from 5.30pm with the U19s clash also available from 4pm.

This will be the second meeting between the two sides with the Hawks winning the previous match-up by 10 goals in the season opener.

After going down to the ladder leading Cavaliers in round 5, the Hawks returned with a vengeance after their bye recording a 23-goal win over the South East Suns last time out.

An exciting clash also awaits in the 19-and-under when the ladder leading Hawks travel south to take on the Cripps who sit in third place.

It shapes as an interesting clash with the Hawks having won the previous meeting between the two sides by 12 goals.
