Bass Hill coach Jon Wilson maintained St Dominic’s College were favourite to dominate their schoolboy clash at McCredie Oval on Wednesday - and he was right on the money thanks to a 22-point haul from a young gun.

“They’re kind of the benchmark for where we need to get to,” Wilson said in the lead up to the game.

On Wednesday, St Doms lived up to their pre-game hype, taking the match 32-14 to continue their charge to the Peter Mulholland Cup quarter finals - with Riley Pollard a star of the show.

Both sides hadn’t played in over two months but Doms, who hadn’t played since a 20-4 victory over St Gregory’s in May, showed little signs of rust, with Bass only lighting up in the second half.

St Doms’ Ryan Goncalves did his best to put first points in the board, but that honour eventually went to Jett Cleary seven minutes into the game.

Just minutes later Jaxen Edgar was in the spotlight, and with Pollard nailing his second conversion, St Doms led 12-0 with just over 10 minutes gone on the clock.

Their third try came after Jack Attard offloaded to Pollard in the 19th minute. Pollard then kicked his third conversion to give his side a 18-0 jump.

Jack Ewar slipped through for his school’s fourth first half try - and with Pollard in great kicking touch, St Doms were up 24-0 at the break.

Bass came up with their first points from a try from young centre Solomon Tupuo who broke through less than four minutes after halftime.

They continued their second-half resurgence when left winger Fouad Turkmani went over for two sensational tries within three minutes to see them trailing 24-14.

But when a red-hot Pollard scored his second try of the afternoon and kicked his sixth conversion, he put the game out of reach of Bass.

PREVIEW

It’s the lethal spine that delivered national glory to the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges, and now could help St Dominic’s College put one foot in the Peter Mulholland Cup quarter-finals.

The Kingswood nursery, spearheaded by Australian schoolboys representatives Riley Pollard and Jaxen Edgar, will clash with rivals Bass High on Wednesday.

It is a clash that could go a long way to determining a quarter-final spot in the NRL Schoolboys Cup, with both sides coming into the clash with a spotless record.

The crucial clash will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV at 1pm, Wednesday, as part of The Daily Telegraph’s season long coverage of the Peter Mulholland Cup.

Bass High know the threat that awaits them in the crunch clash, even though they are still floating on cloud nine after a 60-0 demolition of Holy Cross College, Ryde in Round 1.

“St Dom’s are probably top of the tree,” Bass High coach Jon Wilson said.

“Probably the most competitive side that we’ll come up against.”

“We were happy with our result against Holy Cross, but we didn’t want to get ahead of ourselves, that’s for sure.

“We’ve just been trying to keep the boys grounded and take it one day at a time, because we know St Dom’s has been good every year.

“They’re kind of the benchmark for where we need to get to.”

St Dominic’s kicked off their NRL Schoolboys Cup campaign off with a 20-4 win over St Gregory’s back in May.

But ring rust won’t be a factor for the St Dominic’s side, with three members of their playmaking unit coming off a successful campaign at the ASSRL Nationals earlier this month.

Wilson said the St Dom’s line-up is intimidating, but he’s been working with his side to combat the threats.

“Their spine is unbelievable,” he said.

“They’ve obviously got Jett Cleary, their fullback and their halfback all played at the Australian champs so their spine is very, very good.

“One of the best in the competition to be honest.”

“We’ve been working hard on our defence and our communication to hopefully combat that a bit, but we just need to play our own game and hopefully things will go our way.”

All of the action will be available to stream LIVE on KommunityTV on Wednesday, alongside the massive seeded pool match up between Westfields Sports High and Hills Sports High.
