Westfields Sports High School vs. All Saints Maitland

Westfields finished top of the seeded pool and enter the final eight on a three-game unbeaten run.

They started their campaign by beating Patrician Brothers Blacktown 24-18 in a nail-biter before downing Endeavour 32-18. They then demolished Hills Sports High School 40-4 to really stamp their authority on the competition.

Westfields may be one of the favourites to take out the title, but they have a tough battle ahead against All Saints Maitland.

All Saints came through the tough northern pool. Three of those four teams entered the final games with a chance of finishing top.

With Central Coast Sports losing to Hunter Sports, All Saints got the coveted spot after edging out Farrer.

Earlier, their campaign got off to a rocky start with a 20-16 loss to newcomers Central Coast in the opening round.

They found form in a big way to smash Hunter Sports 38-12 before holding their nerve against Farrer to qualify.

Patrician Brothers Blacktown vs. Victoria University Secondary College

As part of the seeded pool, Patties were guaranteed a spot in the elimination stages, but could have been in contention to take top spot in the pool if results went their way.

Westfields were able to snatch away the victory in their opening round match, while Hills also came from behind to take the win 16-12 in their second match.

They showed their title credentials though when they were able to pick up a win in their final outing, demolishing Endeavour 44-6.

Coach Noah Meares said his side needed to be ‘playing for the whole 60 minutes’ going into the knockout stages.

“We’ve been working to get rid of that ill discipline that put us on the back foot in the first couple of games, I do think we were the better team.”

They are set to face Storm Cup victors Victoria University Secondary College, who defeated last year’s champions Hallam in the final to book their ticket to Sydney.

Vic Uni had the perfect season, winning all three pool matches as well.

Erindale College vs. Endeavour Sports High School

In one of the biggest shocks of the competition so far, Erindale topped their group by defeating reigning champions Patrician Brothers Fairfield 22-10 in their final group match.

Erindale, who made last year’s semifinals before losing to Hills in a thriller, were strong all competition, picking up easy wins over Illawarra Sports and Matraville.

They will head to Sydney to face the bottom-placed team in the seeded pool, Endeavour Sports High School.

Endeavour are the only team in the quarter finals without a win to their name, and, according to coach Brad Keely, have been using the pool round matches as a learning experience heading into the crucial elimination stages.

Kelly said ‘this time of the year is like the business end of the competition’ and he fully intends his team to be in contention for the Cup.

Hills Sports High School vs. St Dominic’s

What a clash this promises to be! Last year’s grand finalists against a team full of national champions.

Hills Sports High School were dominant through most of the pool stage, but a devastating 40-4 loss to Westfields resulted in a second place finish in the seeded pool.

A convincing 36-16 win over Endeavour and a grafting 16-12 victory Patrician Brothers Blacktown ensured Hills went through with some solid results behind them.

St Doms are one of the favourites for this year’s title and have barely put a foot wrong, finishing top of their pool for the second year running.

They defeated runners-up Bass High 32-14 to secure a spot in the next round, and go in as one of the teams to beat.
