Aiden Hodges - Endeavour
It wasn’t Endeavour’s day when they took on Westfields in round two, but a spectacular try from the centre produced late hope for a win.
The set leading up to the try was sloppy, as was the grubber into the area, but Hodges pulled a try out of nowhere, leaping in the air to plant the ball just inside the line.
Will Craig - Westfields
Westfields were in desperate need of points to get back into the picture when they faced Patrician Brothers, Blacktown in round one, and the winger almost did it all himself.
Trailing 18-8 midway through the second half, a couple of mistakes from Blacktown set the stage for a brilliant comeback.
Some solid cross-field play found the winger in a perfect position to dive over for the second of his three tries.
Logan Spinks - Farrer
Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School almost pulled off a brilliant comeback in their first round loss to Hunter Sports High School, and Australian Schoolboy Logan Spinks led the charge.
Already down 14-0 with 10 minutes to go in the first half, Spinks ploughed through Hunter’s defence like a freight train to put Farrer back in contention.
Chad Daniels - Pats Fairfield
The reigning champions wasted no time showing off their 2023 title credentials with a 58-10 thrashing of Illawarra Sports High School, scoring their first try within five minutes of the first whistle.
A comedy of errors from Illawarra in defence where two players crashed into each other over the try line allowed Daniels to swoop in and claim the early try.
Ben Kami - Illawarra Sports High School
It wasn’t all bad for Illawarra though, as they capitalised on a knock-on from Patties to score a length of the field try.
Confusion reigned following the error to allow Illawarra to dart past the Patties’ defence. The ball was then slipped to Ben Kami who produced the spectacular finish.
Marc Tannous - Hills Sports High
Hills left it to the very last minute to claim victory over Patrician Brothers, Blacktown in their opening match.
Lorenzo Talataina put Hills on the board following the halftime break and his quick footwork set the stage for another four-pointer to level the scores at 12-12 moments later.
Tannous was the beneficiary of Talataina’s efforts, receiving the ball 20m out and sprinting to the line for a game-defining try.
Max Mercer - Erindale College
It took Erindale a little while to find their rhythm when they travelled to Matraville in round two, but once the first try was scored, the floodgates opened.
Blake Hovi managed to sidestep the Matraville defence and started sprinting to the line. He then unloaded it to Mercer for the four pointer.
Matraville had no response as Erindale hit the half-century mark.
Tali Kolofale - Central Coast
Central Coast Sports College came into the PMC with a lot of hype for their inaugural competition, but they started on the backfoot against All Saints. Maitland.
Conceding a try early, Central Coast regrouped and got their first-ever points in the competition midway through the first half.
On the last tackle, Chaice Bailey put in a kick that bounced perfectly for Kolofale to sneak past the All Saints defence and open their campaign in style.
Samisoni Talakai - Central Coast
Good things come in twos. No sooner had Kolofale crossed then Talakai had added a second.
This all came from an All Saints fumble that allowed Andre Wisham to steal the ball.
It was then offloaded to Talakai who proved unstoppable from distance, leaving the visiting defence stunned.
Jesse Williams - Patrician Brothers, Fairfield
Patties were not short of spectacular tries to choose from after their 56-0 thrashing of Matraville Sports High School to open up their PMC title defence, but the final of four tries from Williams takes the cake.
Matraville were pushing for their first points of the game and were inches away from making it a reality, but Williams snatched the ball mid-pass and ran away with it.
The full field charge from Williams was capped off with a salute to his opponents and a swan dive over the line.
