NRL Schoolgirls Cup Live Stream: Hills Sports High ready to make history against Mabel Park

They stand on the verge of a historic moment in the women’s game, but Hills Sports High has no issue with its team buying into the occasion. Find out how they are preparing for the first NRL National Schoolgirls Cup final.

Standing on the verge of a historic schoolgirls’ rugby league final, Hills Sports High coach Patricia Raikadroka has implored her troops to savour the moment, but not get lost in it.

The NSW champions are deep in preparation for the NRL National Schoolgirl Cup final against Queensland heavyweights Mabel Park State High.

The inaugural national final, played at the NRL showpiece venue Allianz Stadium, will be live streamed on KommunityTV on Wednesday, September 13.

It will be part of a massive day of schools rugby league action which includes the live streams of the National Schoolboys Cup final and NSW Schoolboys Trophy decider.

Raikadroka knows the importance of her side’s efforts to earn their place on the national stage, but also knows the hardest work of their season is still to come.

“We’re trying to still soak up the fact that we’ve gotten to this point,” she said.

“We’re still trying to find a balance between getting prepared and also being excited and proud.

“I know they’re definitely excited, it’s a lot to take in.

“There’s lots of things that have never happened before, but we’re trying to instil in the girls that it’s normal to get to this point if you work this hard.

“A lot of the things we’re trying to do at school and before games is to create a semi-professional environment so that when it gets to game day and there are lots of people in the crowd, they’re mentally prepared for the game.”

Hills put in an impressive first-half performance to defeat rivals Erindale College in the NSW Schoolgirls final, and the game plan will be much the same against Mabel Park.

The Mabel Park side might have an experience edge on their Sydney counterparts, with the schools rugby league program stretching back at least half a decade.

But it will be home field advantage that the Hills side will be aiming to build upon, with a boisterous crowd expected to travel in from Sydney’s western suburbs.

“There’s definitely a lot more buzz around the school, so many girls are asking to come to games and just be involved,” Raikadroka said.

“We definitely are planning to have a lot of school support there, it would be great not just for the players but for the school as a whole.”
