Erindale put the entire Peter Mulholland Cup on notice when they dethroned last season’s champions Patrician Brothers Fairfield 22-10 in late July, making it three wins from three in 2023.
Now they’re preparing to take on Endeavour in the knockout stages of the competition, with the goal of making the grand final in the minds of all players.
You can see the teams battle it out LIVE and EXCLUSIVE on Kommunity TV at 12.30pm. Catch four games back-to-back from 10am. See the full schedule below.
According to head coach, Ashley Barnes, this year’s Erindale side are a gelled unit composed of a bunch of mates who genuinely enjoy playing together.
“We had a young side last year and most of them have backed up this year, so most boys have a year of playing together under their belts,” Barnes said.
“They’ve formed a special bond not just as teammates, but as mates.
“They know now that every time they step out on the field could be their last together.”
Erindale were eliminated in the semifinals of the 2022 competition to Hills SHS, creating even more of an incentive for the side to push for grand final glory this season.
“There’s a strong culture here at Erindale,” Barnes said.
“There’s a good history around the footy program since its inception in the early 90s.
“Lots of these boys have sacrificed a lot to come here, we’ve got players moving to Canberra from the south coast, Wagga, Goulburn, even one from Perth.
“The boys are proud to go to college and be a part of the program. It’s showing with the standard of footy they’re playing.”
An average of 36 points scored and six points conceded across their three games so far this season is a testament to the structures in place at Erindale.
Ethan Alaia has been a standout for the side from the halves, showcasing some frightening speed and agility that has been a real weapon for the side.
Xavier Cacciotti is another standout in any side he’s a part of, continuing his fine 2023 form with Erindale.
Erindale face the winless Endeavour, with coach Barnes dismissing the idea that on paper it appears to be an easy match for his team.
“It’s a different kettle of fish come finals,” Barnes said.
“It’s do or die, anyone can turn up and send you packing.
“They have a number of talented players in the Sharks system, as well two Australian Schoolboys in Loko Pasifiki Tonga and Nikora Williams.
“It’ll be a tough challenge.”
