Replay: NRL Schoolboy Cup quarter finals - Hills Sports High v Holy Cross College

They don’t steal the limelight, but without them the four NRL Schoolboys semifinalists probably wouldn’t be where they are.

While others pick up the accolades, it’s these honest, hard-working players who are the real heroes. The ones doing the dirty work, providing the impetus going forward and pulling off the try-saving tackle.

PATRICIAN BROTHERS FAIRFIELD

JUNIOR FAGALELE, fullback

The fullback has wreaked havoc on his opposition all season, with his skills not only complimenting the Patties attack but also defence.

He was one of the stand-outs in the 30-point quarter-final demolition of Endeavour Sports High.

His talent isn’t confined to school, with the young player having represented the Parramatta Eels in the Harold Matthews Cup earlier this year.

SIONE LOLOHEA, centre

This swift and agile center has been integral to the teams’ success thus far.

His pure speed has seen him claim tries in each of the round games, with his four-pointer in the two-point win over Holy Cross College decisive.

That win was of particular importance as it ensured they did not face pool A’s top ranked Hills Sports in the quarter-finals.

The Canterbury Bulldogs representative is set to turn heads on Wednesday.

TAJ’H COLQUHOUN, five-eighth

The 17-year-old No.6 isn’t just a promising player, he’s also proving to be a wonderful teammate.

Part of an exciting Patties backline, he has one of the best boots in the business. He kicked

seven goals, and scored a try, in the season opening demolition of Farrer MAHS.

He has also been quick to praise his teammates, such as Billy Arena, who crossed the line four times against Farrer.

WESTFIELDS

LUKE LAULILII, fullback

The reliable and sturdy fullback has been a brick wall fat the back for Westfields.

He’s also made some impressive runs, which have been crucial to his side’s success.

Despite missing out on the ASSRL Nationals, he impressed with Wests Magpies in the Harold Matthews Cup.

BLAIZE TALAGI, five-eighth

Having received the green and gold nod earlier this year, it is no surprise that the five-eighth has been one of the team’s best performers.

The contracted Eels player has gone from strength to strength.

He not only provides unwavering strength but also pops up with plenty of tries.

SAM TUIVAITI, prop

This talented 17 year old prop has really burst onto the scene this year.

Since his outstanding performance for NSW Combined High Schools in the Australian Secondary School Nationals, his name has been on everyone’s lips.

While his skills as a defender are well known, his attacking abilities are just as strong, scoring in the 54-10 defeat of Patrician Brothers Blacktown.

HILLS SPORTS HIGH SCHOOL

BLAKE METCALFE, halfback

The dynamic halfback has been a consistent performer throughout the competition.

Despite being a renowned defender, his most notable achievements this season have arguably been in attack.

He not only scored in the quarter-finals, but most memorably touched down in the final minutes against Patrician Brothers Blacktown in round three, sealing their third consecutive win by a larger margin.

VENA PATUKI-CASE, prop

As far as consistency is concerned, they don’t come any better than Patuki-Case.

The relentless efforts of the front rower enabled him to crush the defensive line of Holy Cross College in the quarter finals - and it wasn’t the first time this year he had done that.

He represented NSW CHS in the ASSRL, alongside teammate Harry Hassett.

HARRY HASSETT, back rower

Hassett is certainly a name you would know if you have been following the tournament this season.

The explosive back rower scored his school’s first try on the season against Westfields and has been a huge contributor ever since.

The talent-bursting Penrith Panthers SG Ball premiership representative also played for NSW CHS at the ASSRL Nationals.

Regan Carr is on the radar of several NRL clubs.

ERINDALE COLLEGE

SAM GASH, fullback

While not scoring as many four-pointers as other teammates, his efforts can’t be overlooked.

Erindale would not have won its regular season pool by such a big margin had it not been for the try assists from speedster Gash.

The Raiders Harold Mats star also represented ACT in the ASSRL Nationals.

REGAN CARR, centre

Hats off to Erindale’s captain Regan Carr who is both a leader on and off the field.

His undeniable strength and goalkicking abilities has made him a hot commodity among NRL clubs.

His stellar performance against The Grange was one of the best individual effortd of the season. He was responsible for four out of the seven tries, and all five conversions, making up 26 of the 38 points.

His last-minute try in the quarterfinals secured Erindale a final four spot.

WILL O’MALLEY, left wing

The speedy O’Malley has proven a reliable finisher and compliments the impressive Erindale line-up beautifully.

The upcoming underdog has been a key point scorer for the team, with his speed often proving too much for opponents.
