The Bears led by 10 points after 20 minutes with wingers Joseph Jaber and Kobe Lepua finding the try line, before Thomas Fletcher and Kalokalo grabbed their first two before half time to see Souths ahead by two points.
Kalokalo scored his second and third try in the first 20 minutes of the second period with his hat-trick try a tremendous individual effort.
Benet Maalo kept the Bears within touching distance with a try in between those two with the centre running onto an challenging Crossfield kick from Cooper Maytom.
Rabbitohs skipper Louis Grossemy barged over in the just before the hour mark, but North Sydney remained in the contest with Darcy Brettle scoring in the 63rd minute with Maytom’s conversion making it an eight-point game.
Any chance of a comeback was scuppered from the kickoff with Norths unable to handle Kalokalo’s booming kick with Fletcher running over for his second try in the following set – Souths winning 36-22.

South Sydney coach John Sutton said his side were able to put aside some difficult early-season results to secure the two points.
“It was a tough start for us, we lost three on the trot,” the Rabbitohs legend said.
“With the weather and that we haven’t been on the field so the boys were really itching today to get out there today and put in a good performance and I think they did that.”
Sutton was keen to give plenty of players a wrap post-match.
“Terrell [Kalokalo] has been training up with the first grade,” Sutton said.
“Being around them in the first grade is good for him and he’s brought that back to the boys so I am expecting big things from Terrell.
“He hasn’t played much league of late because of school commitments, but once he gets a few games under his belt he’s going to be a really dangerous player.
“We haven’t had a kicked kick goals lately so was slotting them
“Louis, our captain, was also great, he led from the front all day.”
Both sides will be on the road in round 6 with Souths travelling to Camden to face Western Suburbs and the Bears taking on Parramatta in Cabramatta.
MATCH PREVIEW: Bears young guns on the rise
Junior rugby league is on the up north of the Harbour Bridge with the Bears’ SG Ball co-captain Jordan Dickson a prime example of the club’s resurgence in the junior ranks.
Byes and wet weather has meant Dickson’s North Sydney Bears have only played two games this season, but they will be looking to record their first win on Saturday when they take on the Rabbitohs at Redfern’s Ironmark High Performance Centre.
The match between the two foundation clubs will be live streamed exclusively on The Daily Telegraph website from 11.30am, Saturday.
Dickson came into the Bears system as an 11-year-old and was a product of North Sydney Brothers, the club where his father Daniel played his footy.
Dickson is part of a junior league explosion at the Bears who have more than doubled their junior registrations in the past five years.
The North Sydney backrower told The Daily Telegraph about his brief flirtation with rugby union and linking up with the Bears - who he believes should soon be back in the big time.
“I’ve played rugby league since I was six,” he said.
“But I had a couple of years playing union, but it was never the same for me, it just didn’t feel right and I didn’t enjoy it as much.
“Being with (the Bears) has been fantastic, it’s been the best thing for me and I love playing for them. They don’t have an NRL side, but they have given players opportunities when not a lot of others have.
“It’s a great club and hopefully one day they have an NRL squad.”
Saturday’s contest will have an added layer of intrigue for Dickson given he’s got a soft spot for the Bunnies, including their new skipper Cameron Murray.
“I love Cam Murray, he’s one of my favourite players,” he said.
“I love his attitude, I love how hard he works. He can pass, he can tackle, he’s such a well rounded player and I try to do that in my own game.
“I don’t want to talk myself up, but I want to be the sort of player that everyone else wants to play with.”
The Bears’ football operations manager, Daniel Hutton, said rugby league in the area is in a good space with more boys and girls putting their hand up to join the pathways program.
“Only five years ago we had under 1000 kids and now we are pushing 2000,” Hutton said.
“From a junior leagues’ perspective, the board is made up of presidents from all the local clubs. It’s young and fresh and forthcoming with new ideas. They’re not stuck in their ways and they’re very progressive.
“It’s paid off ten fold with a big increase in participation by girls in our area, but also our male tackle program continues to grow.”
