What promised to be one of the most competitive fixtures of the Peter Mulholland Cup turned into the opposite after an Erindale College masterclass.
Both they and Hunter Sports High came into their clash at Seiffert Oval with perfect 2-0 records, but it was the home side that kept their flawless season intact on the back of a 34-6 victory.
Raiders Harold Matthews representative Jamie Cowling stood tall for the home side with an inspirational first half that saw him set up the opening try, score another and save one for good measure.
In just the third minute Cowling put a deft grubber behind the line for Harry Hudson to swoop and touch down in the corner to get the scoring underway.
A break from Luke Tuialii had Erindale back on the attack and it was halves partner Jonah Anderson who took control this time, with a lovely cross-field kick finding Samuel Green on the bounce to score in the same corner.

It was Cowling who pushed the lead out to 16 through as many minutes, taking on the line from close range and darting his way through defenders
When Hunter Sports finally had a chance to attack, it was that man again in the thick of things.
Deep on Erindale’s line, second rower Curtis Mulherin opted to take on the five-eighth, but strong first contact saw Cowling guide him over the sideline to prevent a try.
The home side was able to cap off the first half in style with a rampaging Andrew Muir barging his way over to extend the margin to 22-0 at the break.
Hunter Sports had their chances to strike first and get on the board in the second half, but Erindale put the result beyond doubt in the 41st minute with another Anderson gem, kicking behind the line and an unfavourable bounce for the defence turned into a perfect one for a chasing Geordan Amaiu.
The lead was extended beyond 30 the very next set with Jacob Mau-Pohiva carrying multiple defenders over the line in an incredible show of strength.
With less than five to play, Hunter Sports finally got on the board, with a kick deflecting straight into the waiting arms of Jaylan Bishop to avoid a whitewash.
PREVIEW
Erindale College and Hunter Sports are looking for three wins in as many weeks as they round out their Peter Mulholland Cup pool matches on Wednesday.
The two sides have been the standouts in Pool C and Erindale coach Ashley Barnes, for one, can’t wait for what is shaping as one of the matches of the season.
“We’re excited to play against a really good side,” he said.
“The two of us are set to make finals, so I think it’ll be a high quality match.”

Erindale had a dominant start to their 2024 campaign, downing Illawarra Sports 64-6 in front of a home crowd.
They then picked up a narrow 20-18 victory over Hills Sports in tricky conditions in Wentworthville, with a missed conversion by Hills at the death all that separated the teams.
Hunter put 60+ points on Illawarra as well, but had a slightly easier time in disposing of Hills in their first game, winning 26-12.
“I was really pleased with the scrap and the fight they showed,” Barnes said about the Hills match.
“We just now probably need to go back and readjust a couple of things.
“We probably changed our style just bit too much and I understand what we were trying to do.
“The boys just wanted to get through sets and complete, but we played very out of our style.”
Hunter will make the long trip south the day before and can expect a noisy local turnout on game day.
“We don’t get many home games, so we’re really happy to play at home,” he said.
“I’ve got a large squad of rugby league boys, so I always bring them when we play.
“It’s a really strong culture building, and it’s awesome to see a lot of parents as well.”
