Live stream: Catch four massive games from week one of the Peter Mulholland Cup finals series

As if the first three quarter-finals weren’t entertaining enough, Bass High and Hunter Sports decided to end the day with one of the most bizarre scorelines of all time. Catch up on all four REPLAYS.

BASS HIGH 50 d HUNTER SPORTS 32

A blistering second-half performance from Bass High has propelled them into the second week of the Peter Mulholland Cup finals.

Down 20-10 at halftime, Bass scored 40 points in a second half that was beyond belief to take the match 50-32 against Hunter Sports High.

At one stage they scored 30 unanswered points.

Bass captain Ali Karnib said the comeback was all from a change of mindset at halftime.

“We knew after our halftime talk that we had to come out firing,” Karnib said.

“We knew we just had to keep completing our sets, slow down the ball and let the rest of it just fall into place.

“I wouldn’t say anything went wrong in the first half, more that we just got off to a slow start.”

It’s a short turnaround for Bass before they take on Holy Cross next week and Karnib said his boys can do it all again.

“We’re ready.”

PATRICIAN BROTHERS BLACKTOWN 30 d ERINDALE 16

Patrician Brothers Blacktown may have consolidated their favouritism for the Peter Mulholland Cup title, but Erindale certainly lost no admirers in defeat.

Patties kept their winning streak alive with a solid 30-16 qualifying final victory, although things got a little tighter than expected late in the second half.

Patties raced out to a 20-0 halftime lead and looked capable of posting a massive score, but Erindale hit back and got to 24-16 with minutes left before a late try sealed the deal.

Going into the sheds at halftime without a point to their name, Erindale coach Ashley Barnes said his boys showed great resilience to fight back.

“The boys could have gone one way or the other,” Barnes said.

“They came out and they fought hard and they scrapped away and we have something good to build on for next week.”

The loss for Erindale means they will face Central Coast Sports College in an elimination match next week, while Pats get a week off.

CENTRAL COAST SPORTS 36 d HALLAM COLLEGE 26

Central Coast Sports College live to fight another week after ending the run of Victorian giantkillers Hallam College.

It was a scrappy 36-26 success and Central Coast captain Josiah Fesolai was relieved his side stayed alive in the title.

“It definitely wasn’t a perfect match for us,” Fesolai said.

“But we had some good moments and it feels good to go through.”

Hallam took the lead early but Central Coast were in front 24-10 at halftime.

The Victorian team had a resurgence in the second half, but ultimately left themselves too much to do.

There’s no rest for the Central Coast side, who now face another do-or-die clash next week.

ENDEAVOUR SPORTS 52 d HOLY CROSS, RYDE 6 (Qualifying final)

Holy Cross ‘got a bit of a reality check’ as Endeavour Sports marched confidently into the Peter Mulholland Cup semifinals.

Endeavour cleared out to a massive 52-6 victory in their quarterfinal on Wednesday after leading 30-0 at the break.

“We weren’t expecting it, but we’re not gonna dwell on it cause we’ve gotta come back better next week,” Holy Cross fullback Kayden Kanaan said after the match.

As Holy Cross finished first in their pool with three wins from three games, they have a second chance of moving through to the semis with a match next week.

Endeavour’s win means they get a week off and will find out their semifinal opponent after next week’s games.

“It’s always nerve-racking going up against Erindale,” Halangahu said.

Erindale celebrate their 2022 success over Pats Blacktown.

“The first year I played against them, they kind of brought it out late and took us out.

“I said from the start of the competition that they are kind of like the underdogs of the competition, so we need to go into that game expecting what they’re going to throw at us.”

Pats have only conceded 10 points so far this season while scoring 138, but Halangahu said there is definitely still room for improvement.

“I think defensively we’re going to have to tighten it up a bit,” he said.

“(Erindale) have got a pretty good pack, so we need to control the middles.”

The other qualifying final features fellow group winners Endeavour Sports High School and Holy Cross College, Ryde.

The losers back up on Wednesday, August 14 to face the winners of the elimination finals between Bass High and Hunter Sports High, and Central Coast Sports College and Victorian giantkillers Hallam College.

The grand final will be played on Wednesday, August 28 at Campbelltown Stadium.
