NSW Combined Catholic Colleges will be hunting for an elusive Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League double when the best young talents hit the NSW Central Coast in September.

As the NRL finals series gets into full swing, the future of the game will also take centre stage in Port Macquarie at the ASSRL 15-Years Boys and 16-Years Girls National Championships.

KommunityTV will live stream all the action from a massive week of action at the Port Macquaire Regional Stadium from September 23-29.

It comes after a successful 18-Years National Championships in Redcliffe in July.

The tournament will be the inaugural year for the 16-Years Girls competition, with teams coming from across the nation including Western Australia, Northern Territory and Victoria.

The LIVE STREAM coverage of the ASSRL National Championships will be available exclusively to full digital subscribers of any of News Corp Australia’s masthead titles.

Matches will be streamed on daily stories, and replays will be available after the conclusion of each game.

KEY DETAILS

The ASSRL Nationals will be played at Port Macquarie Regional Stadium from Saturday, September 23 to Friday, September 29.

The tournament features representative sides from across the nation in both boys and girls divisions.

The inaugural 16-Years Girls tournament will be played in a lightning carnival style over the opening rounds, with games lasting 20 minutes and teams playing three times over the day.

The girls playoff matches including crossover games and finals will be played over two 20-minute halves.

The boys tournament will be divided into two pools, with Pool A featuring NSWCHS, NSWCCC, NSWCIS, Queensland Maroon, Queensland White and the ACT.

Pool B will feature interstate sides Victoria, Western Australia and Northern Territory as well as an indigenous invitational side, the ASSRL Goannas.

Both pools will compete for their own championships across the week.

WHO COMES OUT ON TOP?

NSW Combined High Schools, who took out the inaugural 18-Years Girls title, will be one of the early favourites in the girls tournament alongside Queensland, NSW Combined Catholic Colleges and the Australian Capital Territory.

But they won’t have it easy at the tournament.

There is plenty of confidence coming from the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges’ camp after a successful trials day last month.

Two young players with plenty of potential to be on the lookout for are fullback Tamworth’s Macey Deitrich and halfback Macey Cox from St Joseph’s, Aberdeen.

In the boys tournament, it really is anyone’s game.

The NSW Combined High Schools team will have plenty of cohesion with six starters coming from reigning Peter Mulholland Cup champions Westfields Sports High.

The school is known for producing successful rugby league players, and the young guns have been working under an impressive program led by Troy Weeden.

But expect plenty of firepower out of the Queensland teams.

National Schoolboys championship winning coach Joshua Bretherton from Ipswich State High will coach the Queensland White side including The Cathedral College’s explosive ballrunner Jake Armstrong.
