Atherton has capped off a dominant afternoon of footy with another convincing victory, defeating fierce FNQRL rivals Innisfail on Sunday.
It was a moment of redemption for Joel Riethmuller’s men who were handed a 48-point drubbing in last year’s major semi-final against the Leprechauns.
The A-grade, reserves and U19 clashes were all live streamed exclusively on KommunityTV.
Atherton was clinical from start to finish in the round two contest, scoring the opening three tries of the contest inside 15 minutes.
And while Innisfail was able to hit back quickly, again the Roosters responded to the challenge as they did all afternoon, by finding the try line almost immediately to stretch their lead.
Tensions boiled over late in the piece, and Innisfail must have taken a bit of extra motivation from the skirmish, scoring two late tries to bring the scoreline to a respectable 48-30 at full time.

An utterly dominant display from the Atherton reserves has seen them roll through Innisfail to win 44-6.
There was no let up from the Roosters as they scored their opening try within seven minutes, before adding a further seven more over the course of the match.
The Leprechauns were able to salvage some pride as they scored the final try of the match through Clancy Wone.
Halfback Ty Grogan was a star for the Roosters, scoring a pair of tries and nailing four conversions in the win.
Replay: Atherton v Innisfail (U19)
Atherton has staved off an early fightback from Innisfail to claim a comfortable victory in their under-19s clash in round two of the FNQRL season.
The Roosters took an early 10-0 lead, but were tested through the remainder of the first half with the Leprechauns responding with a pair of tries of their own to make it a single score game at the main break.
But Atherton was able to break the game open in the second half, running in four unanswered tries to secure a comfortable 38-18 victory.
PREVIEW
Two sides with A-grade premiership aspirations are set to test their title-winning potential in a blockbuster round two Far North Queensland Rugby League clash.
Atherton and Innisfail – both coming off the back of ideal starts to their 2025 campaigns – will face off at Mungalli Creek Stadium on Sunday.
The A-grade, reserves, under-19 matches will be live streamed exclusively on KommunityTV from 12pm.
While Atherton took care of Mareeba by 13 points in their season opener, the Roosters will be coming out with a point to prove after the Leprechauns handed them a brutal defeat 52-4 in last year’s major semi-final.
Coach Joel Riethmuller said the Roosters’ aim was to use momentum from their strong opening performance.
“Going up against (Innisfail) is always a tough job, they finished high up last year, but we believe we can get it done,” Riethmuller said.
“We started really strong (against Mareeba), and our second half was even better. We hung in there, stuck to our processes and ran out the game really well.
“We got the win, but we’ve also got plenty to work on which is exciting.”
Recent history suggests the Leprechauns hold the power in this fixture after running in nine tries in a 52-4 battering in last year’s major semi-final.
That match hung in the balance at 16-4 at the break before a Roosters collapse in the second half, something the hosts will no doubt have etched into their minds heading into Sunday.
“There’s no particular focus after last season’s loss, we just want to win every week against every side,” Riethmuller said.
“They’re one of the benchmarks of the competition, but at the same time it is nice to get one up after a side does flog you in a final the season before.
“The boys will be keen to have a crack.”
Broadcast action begins from 12pm Sunday and you can live FNQRL every round this season on KommunityTV.
