2025 Langer Trophy live stream: Palm Beach Currumbin SHS v Redcliffe SHS, Round 5

A New Zealand native, turned Australian Schoolboys star, is set to be unleashed by Palm Beach Currumbin in Wednesday’s Langer Trophy clash against Redcliffe. Watch a double-header LIVE here.

Palm Beach Currumbin will relish the chance to unleash Australian Schoolboys star Antonio Verhoeven for just the third time as the school embarks on a golden run of home games that can revitalise its national championship defence.

The New Zealander has called Australia home for only a few months but was rated the finest centre in the nation after blowing the hinges off the ASSRL under-18 championships for Queensland.

With one national championship under his belt already, Palm Beach Currumbin coach Tim Maccan hopes the fearsome centre prospect can hit the ignition on his school’s stop-start season too.

“I’d really like to see Antonio get a lot more ball and get more involved,” Maccan said on the eve of his side’s clash with Redcliffe State High.

The Palm Beach v Redcliffe clash will be available live and exclusive on KommunityTV from 5.30pm, with the Walters Cup clash kicking off the action at 4.15pm.

“He didn’t play the first game and he didn’t play in Round 4, so he’s only played two games for us so far,” Maccan said.

“I’d really like to see us get him some early ball. He’s a big, tall athlete, still a bit raw and still learning the game but he’s got lots of potential and he’s already meeting those targets. He’s going to be a big handful as we move further into the games.”

A run of three local games, against Redcliffe (at Tugun), Marsden (at Tugun) and the Battle for the Gold Coast against Keebra Park (at Burleigh) are a fine platform to rediscover national championship form.

But while Palm Beach Currumbin projected a host of returning starters would become available for the start of term three, others have been ruled out.

Ballplaying South Coast representative lock Brody Saunders will feature for the first time this Langer Trophy campaign after recovering from a collarbone injury.

It is a timely return with both starting edge backrowers under injury clouds.

Tough-as-teak backrower Marlie Barry must pass a fitness test on Tuesday to be cleared after picking up a medial ligament strain over the holidays.

There is no hope for his edge opposite Cruz Dangerfield who is certain to miss with a quad strain.

“I’ve got a few back but a few more have been injured over the break so it’s evened itself out,” Maccan said.

“It seems to be a bit of a curse at the moment. It’s been an ongoing battle this year trying to manage the team with injuries. It’s a bit annoying but we’ve still got a good team that we’re going to field on Wednesday.”

Redcliffe pose ample challenges with their strongest squad in years proving that time in the elite Langer Trophy has seen the north Brisbane school rise to the challenge.

Redcliffe toppled mighty Marsden before the break and sit just one win behind Palm Beach Currumbin on the ladder.

A strong middle forward rotation led by captain and hooker Amare Wynward with strike out wide, via nippy fullback James Grey, will give the reigning premiers plenty to contain.
