Dynamic Keebra Park playmaker Justus Lowndes returned to haunt his former Marsden State High School with a try and two try assists in a 24-6 victory over the Langer Trophy’s Makos.
The five-eighth orchestrated a left edge demolition of Marsden that saw Queensland Schoolboys and Broncos-contracted outside backs Siosaia Poese and David Bryenton both cross for doubles.

Keebra’s fourth win of the season was as comprehensive as it gets against a titan of Queensland schools rugby league, which counts Cameron Smith and Israel Folau among its alumni.
How Marsden would have wished to wind back the clock to select their past heroes as their former junior Lownes put on a clinic against his old teammates - including Burleigh’s Mal Meninga Cup champion halfback Hayden Watson.
Lowndes, left unused on the extended bench for the Bears’ under-19s triumph six weeks ago, opened proceedings with a silky try, taking advantage of some brilliant deception from his teammates which carved open a hole in the defence.
Halfback Harvey Smith stared down hard-running backrower Simi Tauelangi to bewitch Marsden and leave nothing but air for Lowndes to glide between to open the scoring.
Lowndes did the hard work himself to close out the first half with a Lockyer-esque end-over-end cutout pass to find Poese for his first of the day.
Another Lowndes cutout to Poese created Bryenton’s first and the rout had officially begun.
Lowndes nearly recorded a third try assist when his flick pass to Smith saw the No.7 dragged down inches from the line.
Keebra Park’s Blue Wall team identity was never more apparent than when Bryenton - a hot-stepping phenom compared to Benji Marshall for his attacking prowess at the school - produced one of the defensive plays of the season.
Marsden excitement machine Adaquix-Jeramiah Watts-Luke shot out of a cannon through the midfield and looked for all money to have scored the Makos’ opener when he met Bryenton at the corner flag.
A jarring tackle forced the ball loose and Keebra Park’s Blue Wall held unbroken until the final minute of the game.
Burleigh Mal Meninga hero Tupou Francis, Marsden’s captain, pounced on a loose ball in the in-goal for a consolation try.
Keebra Park’s mission for a national champion has gone without a hitch through Term 2.

A most surprising obstacle has emerged to threaten Keebra Park’s Langer Trophy team on their mission to win the school’s fourth national championship.
By the time Cooper Murphy’s side takes the stage - and that is still a big if, despite sweeping through Term 2 undefeated - Keebra Park’s fourth national championship may have already been won by the school’s girls team.
Having both teams playing on national grand final day in 2025 was once a fairytale but now looks closer to coming true with every game.

Keebra’s girls, coached by Daniel Schwass, look every bit the real deal after defeating Queensland arch-rivals Marsden State High 20-14 in Wednesday night’s top of the table clash.
Keebra’s flagship opens teams now boast a perfect 7-0 record combined, outscoring opponents 130 to 56.
The girls were made to work until the last minute against the inaugural NRL Schoolgirls Cup champions Marsden.
Having trailed 20-4 in the second half, Marsden rattled Keebra’s line until the very end, closing the gap to 20-14 with a try in final play.
Both sides remain in the fight to claim the Queensland championship and beyond it, the title of Australia’s best schoolgirls rugby league team.

Walters Cup
A hail mary cut-out pass from Keebra Park fullback Sonny Hewitt was the difference between his side’s victory and defeat in a Walters Cup thriller at Marsden State High School.
Locked at 12-all with 70 seconds remaining, Hewitt’s harbour bridge pass flew high over Marsden State High School’s heads to land in the hands of quicksilver winger Isaac Lagaaia to score in the corner and seal a 16-12 victory.

It was the final play of the match and a welcome one for the Gold Coasters who were seconds away from tying their second Walters Cup clash in back-to-back games.
Keebra fought back from deficits twice to topple Marsden in front of the Cameron Smith grandstand with tries to five-eighth Khobi Edwards and booming centre Xavier Takatainga to reach their 12 points.
Takatainga’s 80m score, backing up a blindside Lagaaia dart, looked to have been the try of the match to retake the lead 12-8 eight minutes into the second half.
Marsden had other ideas.
Backrower Kilifi Fetuuaho channelled comic book villain The Juggernaut with a trampling never-say-die try to give Marsden a shot at the lead.
Wayward goalkicking, converting 0-3 for the day, ensured the finish would go down to the wire.
In the biggest moment of the match fullback Hewitt chimed in with the rainbow pass to Lagaaia for the dagger.

Unbeaten Keebra Park will ignore Marsden State High School’s 1-2 record this Langer Trophy season when two of Queensland’s blue-chip schoolboy rugby league teams clash in Brisbane on Wednesday.
Spearheaded by a pair of Burleigh Bears Mal Meninga Cup champions in halfback Hayden Watson and middle forward Tupou Francis, Marsden’s Makos possess plenty of bite but are running out of time to prove it.
The Keebra v Marsden clash will be streamed LIVE and FREE as the match of the round on KommunityTV from 4.30pm.
The Walters Cup match will kick off the action from 3.15pm with the Schoolgirls Cup fixture to wrap up the day from 5.45pm.
The cutthroat Langer Trophy will see five of eight teams progress to the NRL Schoolboys Trophy playoff system and only one team, Stretton State College, is a minnow.
Re-qualifying for the 2026 Langer Trophy is an ignominious fate that could befall Marsden, Ipswich or Wavell unless those teams can find their attacking firepower, defensive resolve or both.
That is why Keebra Park coach Peter Norman is urging his players to give nothing to Watson and Francis as they attempt to kickstart Marsden’s season in front of the Cameron Smith grandstand.
“I’m not reading too much into where they’re sitting on the ladder currently because if you look at the strikepower in that team they still have a couple of really quality players,” Norman said.
“Hayden Watson, Tupou Francis and Taylan To’a are three Queensland Schoolboys players that are playing really well so we’re not reading into their latest results.
“We’re preparing ourselves for a finals match intensity.”
Middle forward Francis, the younger brother of former Marsden centre/five-eighth Tony who is now with the Titans, was the man of the hour in the Bears’ Mal Meninga Cup grand final.
His last minute charge in golden point sealed state glory for Burleigh and underlined why Keebra can never lose track of the under-17 Brisbane Broncos forward prospect.
“We highlighted a couple of his clips on Monday and they showed the classy player he is,” Norman said.
“It just reiterated the fact that we can’t have any plays off in defence or else he’ll pull our pants down, basically. Our job will be to control the ruck speed and that will allow us to put a bit more pressure on him. If we’re having a lazy moment and he can get on the back of a quick play-the-ball the alarm bells are going to be ringing for us.”
Queensland under-19 State of Origin half is a known quantity that Keebra Park will also keep front of mind.
