Coach Tony Martin had called for better ball control from his troops and they delivered, completing at just over 85 percent as compared to less than 50 percent in their close call against Emmaus last week.
“We showed the difference between when we hold the ball and when we don’t,” he coach said.
“It was a good overall performance and we played the style of footy we want to play.”
TCC stormed out of the blocks with a try to prop Zac Bateman in the second minute and they never let up, scoring with regularity.
Front rower Parker Hunt led the way with his aggressive runs through the middle, while halfback Henry Villiers helped orchestrate the team’s countless attacking raids.
Fullback Harley Biles had another strong showing, and Mickey Busby was dynamic out of dummy half, proving a threat with his speed and feeding off the team’s momentum.
The Cathedral College v Shalom College (2025 QLD NRL Schoolgirls Cup)
MATCH REPORT
It was all one-way traffic as The Cathedral College piled on the points in their second outing in the NRL Schoolgirls Cup.
They scored eight tries to one in their commanding 40-6 win over Shalom College.
Seven players got on the scoresheet, with crafty hooker Josie Wogand bagging a double.
Front rower Mylie Walker was a standout for the victors, clocking up plenty of run metres and producing some solid defence.
Halfback Maddie Johnson, fullback Kayla Vella and back rower Charlotte McLean also played leading roles.
Shalom struggled to contain TCC’s lethal attack from the opening hooter, with winger Ellie Goodwin crossing just three minutes into the contest.
A four-try barrage in just 11 minutes took them into the break with a comfortable 26-nil lead.
Shalom was first on the board in the second half, and the points seemed to break the shackles as they started to play with more freedom off the back of some great go-forward from second rower Manieya Ramirez and prop Ruby Rossiter.
But TCC took little time to address their defensive lapse, responding with a try to McLean just minutes later before winger Millie Price added to the tally.
TCC’s left edge proved a constant threat, with hard-running Alexis Bukowski finding her way through to score the team’s final try.
The Cathedral College v Shalom College (2025 Dolphins Challenge)
MATCH REPORT
Shalom College was full of running as it claimed its second win in the Dolphins Challenge on Tuesday.
The Bundaberg boys showed precision and power in their 28-nil win over The Cathedral College.
They opened the scoring five minutes into the game and a deft kick and regather resulted in their sixth try in the shadows of full-time.
PREVIEW
It will be back to basics for The Cathedral College as they hunt their second win of the Dolphins Cup season against a spirited Shalom College.
TCC comes into the game on the back of a hard-fought 20-14 win over Emmaus in Round 1, while Shalom will be looking for their first competition points after going down 24-12 to reigning champions St Brendan’s.
The schools will also face off in the Dolphins Challenge (Year 10) and NRL Schoolgirls Cup - and you can watch the rugby league triple header live and exclusive on Kommunity TV.
The battle of the Melbourne Storm Old Boys - respective coaches Tony Martin and Antonio Kaufusi - will add another layer of intrigue to what should be a spirited contest.
The two coaches are looking for improved performances on Tuesday, with both stressing the need for their players to focus on doing the one percenters well.
“We’ll be going back to absolute basics - it will be all about ball control and completions for us,” Martin said.
“Shalom will be a good side; they’re well coached, they’ve improved over the last few years and they will be coming here to try to get a win up.
“They were a really tough game for us last year down in Bundaberg, I think we only ended up winning by two points, so we’re under no illusion it will be a tough game.”
Kaufusi said there was a key takeaway for his team from the season opener.
“Playing a quality side like Brendan’s, you can see how they just do the little things really, really well and consistently and they got rewarded for that against us,” he said.
“If we’re going to be competitive this year, we need to build that into our game and do it for longer periods of time.
“I believe we’ve got the personnel to be competitive but it’s about making sure we keep working hard for each other and making sure we do the little things right.”
Kaufusi said skipper and lock Riley Morcom would be primed for another big showing after an outstanding performance against St Brendan’s.
He got good support from Luke Giles, who started at lock, and Aston Fraser who was strong on the edge.
Kaufusi said his forward pack would need to work hard to help bring attacking weapons such as fullback Parkka Perrotta-Dowling and halfback Jimmy Gear into the game.
TCC’s powerful forward pack will have a big bearing on the result but Martin is looking for everyone to do their job.
“We’re very big on people just playing their role. For us, it’s know your role, play your role, accept your role,” he said.
“I just want all of them to be the best version of themselves and put in on the field all the things we’ve trained for.”
