Rostrevor College has won it’s third All Schools Cup final in the past five years after knocking off public schools champions Roma Mitchell College in emphatic fashion.

The raw pace and slick footwork of wingers Vincenzo Scalzi and Henry Knight did all the damage as Rostrevor stormed home to a 6-1 win in Wednesday’s final.

Roma Mitchell just couldn’t find the answers in the face of a Rostrevor side that clearly had spent years together on the field.

Antonio Siciliano played the perfect link man through the midfield while his main strike weapons caused havoc up front.

Scalzi finished with a double, and threatened to convert his hattrick on multiple occasions in the second half, while Year 12 student Luke Spagnoletti celebrated his final time in a Rostrevor jersey in fine fashion with the last goal of the game.

Knight, Siciliano and Tommy Manstrantuone were the other goal scorers for Rostrevor.

Confidence would have been sky high for the Roma Mitchell side after they hit the scoreboard first through an own goal early in the first half, but it was all a red and black wave from that point on.

Thomas Moore College made no mistake on their way to the Year 11-12 Div 2 boys title, with forward Junior Ayang starring in a 9-0 demolition of Tatachilla in the final.

Golden Grove get in on act with School Sport SA title win

They lost an earlier final, but there was no denying Golden Grove High School their first title of the School Sport SA statewide boys and girls football finals week on Wednesday.

After falling to Henley High in the Year 7/8 girls decider in the morning, Golden Grove hit back in the afternoon to edge out Hallet Cove 2-1 in the boys Year 9/10 Division 2 grand final.

Alfie Brown opened the scoring midway through the first half before Hallet Cove equalised when Pakin Redshaw found the net.

Emerson Koenig proved the hero for Golden Grove by scoring the winner midway through the second half.

Meanwhile, Henley High grabbed the first title on offer on Wednesday as their youngest girls team went on a goalscoring spree.

Three goals in the opening 15 minutes, and five all up in a dominant first half, proved the catalyst for the comfortable win over Golden Grove.

They added two more in the second half to complete the rout and add to the day one titles won by their Year 9/10 boys and girls Division 1 teams.

Golden Grove qualified for the final earlier in the day after a 2-1 victory over Nazareth.

The action continues on Thursday with the 11/12 Boys All Schools games.

Henley clinch thrilling title double in School Sport SA finals

Players swarmed the field, the Henley bench emptying, no it wasn’t the end of the match, but it was the telling moment.

Deep in the opening period of extra time, Henley shattered the hearts of the Blackfriars boys, kicking ahead to a game-winning 4-3 lead.

But what happened next turned more heads than the strike itself.

The Henley boys poured into the corner of the field, and all sat in unison to row the boat in celebration of the match-winning strike.

It ended a thrilling Year 9/10 boys Division 1 final in which both sides had enjoyed time in the lead, and were deserving of taking the state title honours.

But in the end it was the red army who ran away with the crown following a gruelling period of extra time.

It capped off a big day of action for the school, who also claimed the honours in the Year 9/10 Division 1 girls final.

Henley High kicked three unanswered goals in a dominant second-half to take out the girls Year 9/10 Division 1 title.

The reds were unstoppable in the second half, kicking three unanswered goals to pour over the top of grand final rivals Kildare in the 4-1 win.

It was just reward for the reds who had been the better side for most of the contest, despite going into the halftime break at 1-1.

The Year 9/10 finals series was just the first cab off the rank of a big week of School Sport SA finals action which also includes Wednesday’s Year 7/8 finals series and All Schools Cup final on Thursday.
