Having sat out the opening day of nationals, Capital Football made up for lost time on Thursday with a dominant 8-0 win over Queensland White.
But it was their performance in the afternoon which will have tongues wagging after goals to Natalie De Marco and Sofia Palywoda helped them down tournament heavyweights NSW Thunder in a 2-1 thriller.
NSW Thunder had earlier beaten Victoria White 10-2 to set themselves up for a run at the trophy.
Victoria Navy is in the box seat in the other open women’s pool after continuing their unbeaten run with a 1-1 draw against NSW Lightning and a 4-1 win over Capital Football.

NSW Lightning was toppled by neighbouring rivals Northern NSW by three goals in the afternoon, but will still be in contention for finals.
In the open men’s division, reigning champions NSW Thunder were left shocked on Thursday after an Atay Ibrahim double inspired Victoria Blues to a brilliant 4-3 win.
It has opened the door for the Blues to grab top seeding heading into Saturday’s play-off rounds if they can beat state rivals Victoria Navy on Friday.
Football West kept their unbeaten run through the tournament in the other group, powering past Capital Football in a 10-6 goal blitz.
Charlie Garnham kicked four goals for the West to put himself level with Futsalroos veteran Grant Lynch as the leading goalscorers for the tournament.
