It took a towering header with just minutes to go, but North East secured a famous victory in day two of the Sydney International Cup on Saturday.
It was a back and forth affair throughout between North East and Football Lab’s under-11 boys throughout, with both teams creating chances but not able to capitalise.

Football Lab created much of the pressure throughout the second half, but were unable to inflict the damage they needed on the scoreboard.
With the final moments of the match closing in, it was North East who did the bulk of the attacking, and it was a terrific header from their attacker in the final minutes as he climbed the ladder at the back post which netted them the lead.
While Football Lab had a couple of cracks at goal in the final three minutes, they were unable to square the ledger, with North East taking the three points.
The goal was North East’s first of the entire tournament, while the win saw them move into first place in Group E.

PREVIEW
After retiring from professional football in 2021, former A-League defender Daniel Georgievski wanted to give back to his sport.
Friend and now business partner Pep Fedele floated the idea of creating an academy to help nurture the next generation of players, and so the Stella Football Academy was born.
“I think I’ve always been really good with kids,” Georgievski said.
“And I’ve always been intrigued with the development part of the sport and I just thought ‘you know what, let’s give this a crack.’”
“It’s been really enjoyable, a really good ride so far.”
Teams from the Sydney-based Academy will take on clubs from across Australia and New Zealand at the Sydney International Cup at Cromer Park, Manly over the October long weekend.
Stella FC will field teams in the boys U8, U9, U10 and U11 boys competitions this year, with the aim to give the kids experience in a more professional environment.
“Obviously we don’t go into tournaments to lose,” Georgievski said.

“But we want to come away from the tournament full of confidence, knowing that they can play against good players, good teams and good structures in any weather.
“We also want them to come out of it with smiles on their faces, saying they’ve learned something from it.”
Georgievski said it has been really rewarding working with kids and developing their skills, no matter if they are future stars or just playing for fun.
“I love just seeing the smiles at the end of the day,” Georgievski said.
“When I’m teaching them something and they’re just trying to do it, they keep trying and they persist and when they finally get it, the excitement from them is just the best.”
