He missed a free throw before landing an incredible game-winner. Austin Rapp won’t forget the last few seconds of Sunday’s BA U20 men’s decider in a hurry.
Rapp had the chance to secure the game for Victoria but his free throw missed. Queensland then went up the other and Jaylen Pittman landed a devasting three-pointer to lock up the scores at 104-104 with 1.4 seconds left.
From the ensuing inbound pass, Rapp got the ball and shot over the top of Roman Siulepa straight into the basket.
That made it four from four for the Vics on a massive day at Ballarat.
The women’s IB Cup team kicked off the day with an impressive win over NSW. The men’s IB team followed with a dominant performance in taking down arch rivals South Australia.
The women’s U20 team then proved too strong for South Australia, with hot-shooting Sienna Harvey hitting 29 points in a 75-59 victory.

VICTORIA LEAVE IT VERY LATE TO GRAB TITLE
Maybe Austin Rapp wanted to make it interesting.
The South East Melbourne Phoenix young gun hit a remarkable game winner to win the national championships.
In a wild finish, Rapp missed a free throw just seconds earlier to put the Vics up by four.
Then Jaylen Pitman hit a stunning three with just 1.4 seconds remaining as OT loomed large. It came after Queensland were quickly able to spread the ball up the floor off a missed free throw from Rapp.
Out of the resulting time out, Rapp received the ball and hit a brilliant fadeaway sparking wild celebrations.
He finished as the game’s highest scorer with 32 points while Joel Foxwell had 28.
Queensland star Roman Siulepa was equally as brilliant with 29.
HOT-SHOOTING HARVEY GUIDES VIC WOMEN HOME
Sienna Harvey is one of the best pure scorers in Australian basketball and she proved it on the big stage.
The Wodonga product lit up the U20 National Championships final to lead Victoria to a gold medal against South Australia Red, 75-59.
Harvey scored 15 of her 29 points in the last quarter, including eight in the first two minutes of the quarter.
Importantly, it came at a time when Victoria needed it most as a late third quarter charge from SA threatened to bring the margin right back.
Bonnie Deas was influential with 15 points.
Dakota Crichton grew into the game and was impressive with her playmaking ability.
Paige Padroth top scored for SA with 13.
BIRTHDAY BOY BLASTS VICS TO VICTORY
Dylan Cheyne knows how to celebrate his birthday.
The brilliant Victorian Ivor Burge big man scored 22 points and had 19 rebounds in a powerful display on his 21st birthday to guide Victoria to the gold medal.
Victoria prevailed 83-65 against a plucky South Australian side to go one better after last year’s defeat to the same opposition.
The 217cm giant was at the centre of everything as he formed a stunning two-man game with Jack Innella (16 points, eight steals and five assists).
Matthew Farrar was also impressive with his athleticism, producing several eye-catching finishes.
VICS ROUT SKY BLUES WITH DEFENSIVE GOLD
A dogged defensive display has driven Victoria’s Ivor Burge women to the gold medal.
The Vics were relentless in their defensive pressure to help set up the 72-50 win on Sunday morning to kick start the final day.
Mia Wilson was at the forefront of the performance with a whopping seven steals, creating plenty of fast-break opportunities for her side.
Montana Haag and Wilson were the leading scorers for the Vics with 15 points apiece, while
Brittany Anderson led NSW with 15.
