Live stream: Watch Dash Daniels and the NBA Global Academy at Basketball Australia Under-20 and Ivor Burge National Championships

Having an NBA lottery pick in your corner can come with expectation and comfort, but for this NBA Global Academy star it means a mountain of support.

When you have an NBA lottery pick in your corner, there’s both expectation and comfort.

When that NBA lottery pick, who is already a bona fide Australian Boomer and developing his elite skills with the New Orleans Pelicans, is your big brother, there are high standards to meet but a path to greatness that is just a little clearer.

For NBA Global Academy young gun Dash Daniels, set to suit up for a second time at the 2024 Basketball Australian U20 National Championships in Ballarat, big bro Dyson is setting a gold standard the 16-year-old is already eclipsing in some areas.

Dad Ricky Daniels moved to Australia to play pro ball and never left, helping guide Dyson on his road to the NBA.

Dyson is now doing the same thing for Dash.

“I try to be a positive influence on him, I’m big brother and I love him, but I try to be hard on him too, because I think that’s what he needs,” Dyson Daniels told News Corp last year.

“I really believe in him, I really believe he can make it to the NBA, so I try to keep him in good habits and make sure that he’s doing the right things.

“There’s so much room for him to grow, because he has the skillset to be great.”

The two grew up battling on the basketball court and spend time going at each other in the gym whenever Dyson makes it back home.

Dyson loves what he sees from little bro.

“I think he’s a little different to me, in that he’s more of a scorer,” Dyson said.

“He’s probably going to be a bit taller than me. He’s already 6’6” right now and he can really create his own shot for himself.

”He’s got really good defensive instincts as well.

“We have similar frames, but I’d say he’s more of a scorer and I’m more of a playmaker.”

Dash, who made his Under-20 National Championships debut at only 15 last year, will be a key cog in a high-class NBA Global Academy side.

The NBA Global Academy team will also include Kiwi monster Julius Halaifonua, Quatari two-way guard Hamad Mousa and Bulgarian excitement machine Aleksandar Gavalyugov.
