And it’s given her an opportunity to learn from the competition’s best, including Cayla George and Tiffany Mitchell.

Now the 18-year-old is ready to once again test herself against players in her own age group.

“I’ve really learnt a lot over the last few months,” she said.

“The girls at the Boomers make a real effort to try and teach you at training during the week. They’re always giving me little tips and tricks about what I can do.

“It’s an amazing environment to be play able to play in for a younger player like myself.

“Playing against the bigger bodies at that level, and in the NBL1 with Diamond Valley, has given me a lot of experience, which I think is only going to help me in the long run.”

What those star teammates can’t teach is Burrows’ sensational shooting ability.

She is one of the best pure shooting teenagers in the country.

And it was on show when she represented Australia at the FIBA under-18 Asian Championship last year.

Burrows shot over 77 per cent from the floor and an impressive 40 per cent from deep.

“During Covid and all of the lockdowns, I worked on my shooting a lot because I didn’t really have anything else to do,” she laughed.

“I’ve never been someone to really just force shots when I’m on the court. My coaches often say that I’m choosing to make the right shot.

“Playing for Australia was incredible. It had been a dream of mine since I was a kid and it was a whole different level of what I’m used to.

“The scouting and studying of game tape isn’t something you might always get at state level. And it was great to play with some girls that I’ve compered against at nationals since I was in the under-16s.”

Post national championships, Burrows already has big plans in front of her after committing to US college basketball powerhouse Syracuse.

She’ll join Brisbane’s Georgia Wooley, who is currently in her second year of the program.

Burrows will also follow in the footsteps of Nancy Lieberman, who is one of the school’s greatest-ever players.

“I met Georgia when I visited and I was really impressed by everything,” she said.

“Coach (Felisha Legette-Jack) is everything I look for in a coach and I’m looking forward to playing under her. I spoke a lot about the education opportunities as well because that is really big to me.

“I’m not sure what I want to study yet but it will be something to do with sport.”

Victoria begin their campaign against Tasmania on court one at 10am on Tuesday morning and back up at 6pm to face ACT.
