WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR
Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia will be the hunted in Queensland as they look to defend their gold medals from a year ago.
And on an individual level, there will be a string of talents looking to impress scouts as they look to break into professional hoops or head down the US college route
Victoria Metro came up clutch against South Australia Metro a year ago to claim the U18 boys national title in a top quality contest.
Many of those who starred in that win – including Ryder Cheesman, Austin Foxwell and Marcus Krasnadamskis – went on to claim U20 gold with Victoria Navy in February.
Now the likes of Denver Warry and Charles Webb return from the 2024 winning side to keep the crown in Victorian hands.
On the girls side, New South Wales Metro took gold last year with the stars from that side also going on to U20 success.
A new-look NSW outfit will once again be in contention but should face plenty of stiff competition from talented sides out of SA, WA and of course Victoria.
Then there’s the hosts.
Queensland comes into the home tournament with a stack of rising stars in both their North and South rosters.
They include Taryn Bond, Cheyenne Bobongie and Olivia Olechnowicz who will provide headaches for opposition sides in the girls draw.
In the Junior Wheelchair Championships, the WA took down reigning champions Victoria last year and now look to defend their crown.
Jordan Mouritz, Weston Tedcastle and Michael McDonald return from that winning Black Ducks team to take on the competition in 2025.
Queensland, NSW and SA will also send teams to compete in the Junior Wheelchair Championships, which are open to eligible athletes under 23.
