Canberra school Erindale College has grown their AFL program in recent years and both their boys and girls teams have made it through to the finals.
“We’re all really excited about that (having two teams in the finals),” Erindale coach Mark Armstrong said.
“It’s the first time it’s happened for us.”
While the boys are no strangers to the finals, the girls team hasn’t made it this far in a number of years.
However, Armstrong said they have a stacked team in 2024.
“No doubt this is the best team that I’ve been able to put together for a long time,” Armstrong said.
“I think we’re most excited at the moment about some of our new girls and seeing how they might go at this level of football.
“We’ve got Jade Brazier, Jade Paterson and her twin sister, Ariella, Lucy Maher and Hope Mcnamara, who are all year 10 girls and have been really exciting to watch this year.”
The Erindale boys side were crowned champions in 2022 but fell short in the decider last year.
“The competition over the past couple of years has been really strong,” Armstrong said.
“Certainly last year it was really, really strong.
“So we’re hoping that we’ll be successful, but we know it’s also going to be a huge challenge.
“We know that we really have to be at our best to compete, but in saying that we are definitely not going to be overconfident.”
