She’s the sister of three current AFLW-listed players and now Gold Coast Suns Coates Talent League girls captain Georja Davies is well and truly on her way to carving out a legacy of her own.
Davies is one of four Gold Coast Suns in the AFL National Academy Girls squad, with fellow prospects Dekota Baron, Ava Usher and Alannah Welsh all members.
And she has her sights set on following in the footsteps of sisters Giselle (Sydney), Fleur (GWS), and Darcie (Suns) who have all made it to the elite level.
Davies will be one of the prospects to watch when Gold Coast travel south to take on Eastern Ranges in a Coates Talent League double-header on Sunday.
Both boys and girls matches will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV from 10.45am.
The Suns will be without Usher and Baron when they take on the Ranges but Suns coach Brenton Male remains unfazed by their absence.
“Georja Davies is one of our captains, her on-field stuff is very impressive but her off-field leadership, especially of late has been absolutely phenomenal,” he said.
“Her ability to get the group up and about, ensure that we’re playing to the structures that we’re playing to … her actions on field are absolutely phenomenal.
“It is all credit to Georja, she does all the work, she’s at every session, really great with her reviews.
“While she has got the great modelling, she definitely drives the standards herself as well.”
The AFL academy prospects will not be the only ones to watch out for, with several young excitement machines set to make an impact across the park.
“We’ve got two small forwards who are very exciting in Scarlett Featherstone and Amelia Ella,” Male said.
“We also have a fullback who played on a very talented player for Dandenong Stingrays in Lilly-Ann Ryder.
“She just sets up play back from defence, intercept marking and had a strong one-on-one game.
“We’ve got a young under-16 making her debut she’s coming up to the 18s Tara Nieass.
“She’s a young, athletic key forward, it is exciting for her, she has had a bit of injury interruptions through the 16s but has really impressed and now gets her opportunity up in the under-18s.”
The Suns under-18 boys Coates Talent side is equally as impressive, even without the injured Zeke Uwland – who is predicted to be one of the top draft picks this year.
Suns coach Jarrod Cotton has put out the challenge to his side to claim a victory against a dynamic team in Eastern Ranges which has often come out on top in previous clashes between the two sides.
“We’ve had some really good games against them but they’ve managed to beat us on most occasions,” he said.
“They’re a very good football team got a lot of talent, it’s going to be a great challenge for our players and a chance for them to put themselves against some of the best in Victoria so should be very exciting.”
In the absence of Uwland, Beau Addinsall will look the opportunity to prove why he is one of the top prospects in this year’s draft class.
“Beau Addinsall is an inside mid, his workrate is excellent, really clean at the stoppage and can hit the scoreboard,” Cotton said.
Cotton also highlighted key forward Max Hudson - who booted five goals in his last game - and midfielders Koby Coulson, Dylan Patterson and Jai Murray as key players to watch this weekend.
“Dylan Patterson’s a really exciting player who’s got elite speed, really good foot skills and can damage on the inside and also on the outside,” he said.
“Jai Murray’s been an excellent midfielder, he’s been a really good decision maker, (has) elite foot skills and been really clean at the stoppage.”
