The Gold Coast Titans will be out for revenge this weekend when they take on the Ipswich Jets in a highly-anticipated HPNL Sapphire grand final rematch to kickstart the season on Sunday.

The Jets came out on top in the Sapphire Series decider last year and will face-off against a new-look Titans spearheaded by new coach Victor Potaka and assistant coach Cathrine Tuivati.

The Titans and Jets clash will be available live and exclusive on KommunityTV from 4pm as apart of a huge round 1 double-header.

The Brisbane South Wildcats v Sunshine Coast Thunder matchup will also be streamed live and exclusive from 6pm.

Lily Gray was a member of the Titans side which fell agonisingly short of victory in last year’s decider and is more determined than ever to lead the team to glory in 2025.

“We were all gutted to not get the trophy last year but I think we all knew that it was so within our reach, that we weren’t necessarily sad, we were just ready to get on with this year and go one step better in 2025,” Gray said.

“We’ve lost a few of our key players to retirement so we’ve had a little bit of a rebuild but that’s also really exciting.

“We’ve brought in some good young guns that will freshen up what we’re doing and we’re just excited to get going and see how we all play on the court this season.”

Potaka made the step up to head coach after previously serving as assistant, with former coach Temepara Bailey moving to New Zealand to coach the Northern Stars.

Gray said although it will be a new-look side with younger faces and a change in coaching staff, the team will still play a very similar style to previous years.

“Vic, he’s been around our environment for so long, but him stepping into the head coach role has been seamless,” she said.

“We’re definitely not trying to change too much because obviously we came runners-up last year, so we’re doing something right.

“With Vic and Kat in there, we’re just fine tuning those things and bringing a few different styles of playing to hopefully get us one step better this year.”

The squad will face an almighty challenge in their opening clash, with the reigning premiers losing only Chloe Litherland and Nora Misa from 2024 and replacing them with former Bond player Ella Spencer and Papua New Guinea representative Sarah Harris.

Entering her fourth season with the Titans, Gray is eager to take on a leadership role within the program this year and hopes she can claim that elusive title.

“I’m really excited play and fill more of a senior role within the team,” she said.

“It’s been really special to be a part of the journey since year one … we’ve become a really strong club and a force to be reckoned with.

“I’ve never won a Sapphire Series grand final so that would be unbelievable.

“I think we all know how hard we’ve worked and how special the club is so we definitely want to do that justice and represent not only the Titans Netball Club but the Gold Coast Titans as a whole organisation.

“We want to bring premierships back to the Coast and it would mean so much.”
